Sprint Relays
Mason is the team to beat. All around they have solid relays, and have the second best time in the state in the 4x100, the 4th fastest time in the 4x200 and the 4th fastest time in the 4x400. However, there will be some teams that will challenge the Comets of Mason.
4x100m Relay
After Mason’s 42.10, there’s a whole bunch of teams in the 43 second range. Hilliard Davidson 43.38, Northmont 43.39, Wayne 43.47, Lebanon 43.47, Troy 43.80, Vandalia Butler 43.84, Sycamore 43.85, Centerville 43.89, Middletown 43.92 and Beavercreek 43.98. It could be a battle for second, but what a battle it’s shaping up to be.

Again, Mason seems to be the top of the class, but Wayne and Centerville seem to be the teams to push them.
4x400m Relay

Shuttle Hurdles
Wayne has the top time with the teams entered. They recently won the Dayton relays event, going 61.74. Northmont has gone 63.21, Lebanon has gone 63.88 while Springboro has gone 63.88. This looks like the Warriors are the top team in this event.
Distance
A must see showdown with several of the best distance runners in the state. Westerville North’s Jacob Dumford, Tipp City’s Sam Wharton and Grant Koch, Granville’s Tyler Otterstedt, Mason’s Tom Clark , Nick Grismer and Alex Notton, St. Xavier’s Alex Kuvin, Evan Stifel, Lakota East Matt Rice and Ben Call, Centervilles Josh Steible, Vandalia Butlers Jacob Brumfield and Andy Harden headline a stellar distance field.
800 Meter Run
Grant Koch of Tipp City was runner up last year. Garrett Morrison of Centerville (5th) andTyler Masthay of Lebanon (6th) also return.
But, Jacob Dumford is the one to watch in this race. Dumford owns a personal best of 1:51.15. The meet record of 1:53.99 held by Jeff See of Middletown in 2005 might be in danger.
ELITE 1600 Meter Run
Dumford is the defending champion. Butler’s Jacob Brumfield (4:19.05 pr)was third last year, followed by Koch (has gone 4:27.39) of Tipp, who was fourth. Hilliard Davidson Anthony Caviolo was 5th, Hardin( 4:28.70 pr) of Butler was 6th and Centerville Josh Stieble (4:26.01 converted) was 8th.
Dumford recently went 4:10.35 at the Eastern Relays. Mason’s Alex Notton has a pr of 4;19.14, Tipp’s Sam Wharton is schedule to run and owns a personal best of 4;20.01. Mason’s Tom Clark has gone 4:26.91, St. Xavier Michael Hall has gone 4:18.35, Troy’s Troy Schultz 4:28.61, and Ben Rath of Defiance 4:29.78 round out potentially 10 runners under 4:30. Dumford is the favorite and should challenge Chad Baylo of Sprinboro meet record of 4:13.20 set in 2006.
ELITE 3200 Meter Run
Jacob Grabowski is the defending champion and has gone 9:25.76. Alex Notton of Mason was second last year, and he’s gone 9;28.14. Kent Ford of Westerville was 3rd last year and owns a best of 9:24.53. Mason’s Tom Clark was 6th last year and owns a best of 9:17.22. Matt Rice of Lakota East has gone 9:29.45, and teammate ben Call has gone 9:31.88. With 6 of the 8 returnees back, this could wind up being a great battle in the elite race.
Distance Medley Relay 1200-400-800-1600
On day one, this is the first race of the day, and it could be the best race of the day. St. Xavier has the state’s best time in 10;21.81. Mason has gone 10:39.76, Centerville has gone 10:43.49, Westerville North has gone 10:43.49, Vandalia Butler has gone 10:43.49, Tipp City has gone 10:51.17, Lakota East has gone 10:56.44, Lancaster 10:56.92 and Lebanon has gone 10:58.92. In fact, of the top 18 teams in the state are competing in this event. The meet record of 10:35.87 set by St. Xavier in 2011 is definitely within reach for any of these teams.
4x800m relay
Westerville North smashed the meet record last year (old record 7:59.58 set in 2004 by Middletown team that included Jeff See) by running 7:53.73. Well, Mason just went 7:59.02, Tipp City and Centerville have gone 8:10.40, Lancaster has gone 8:10.43, Vandalia Butler has gone 8:11.20 and St. Xavier has gone 8:15.64. What’s great is that anyone of these teams are capable of running a great time and competing with the Warriors of Westerville and Comets of Mason. With this race being the last race of the night on day one, expect some fast times.
