Chardon senior, Nick Elswick, has chosen to keep his talents in his home state and become and Ohio State Buckeye. Elswick finished fourth at the 2012 OHSAA Cross Country Championship Meet and then followed that up with a top 10 finish at the Footlocker Midwest Meet, earning himself a trip to Footlocker Nationals. Elswick finished the Footlocker National Championship course at Balboa Park with a clocking of 15:59 to finish 30th as a junior against the nations top runners. His best Cross Country 5K time is from the Footlocker Midwest Meet where he finished with a time of 15:12, which was the third fastest time in Ohio for the year, and the top returning time this upcoming season.
During the outdoor season, Elswick continued to post impressive times. At the 2013 OHSAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Elswick finished second in the 3200m Run with a time of 9:00.43, which was the second fastest time in Ohio. Elswick's 9:00.43 is also the tenth best returning time in the nation in the 3200m Run. A few weeks later, at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals, Elswick posted a time of 14:28.73 in the 5000m Run to finish as the runner up, and with the second fastest (and top returning) time in the nation.
