
The 2013-2014 athletic year had many outstanding performances. There were new records set, surprises, upsets, national elite performances as well as heartbreak, disappointment
and redemption. The one story that stayed at the forefront the entire season was that of the boys on North Bend Road in Cincinnati, OH. The boys at St. Xavier accomplished an extremely rare feat, one that earned them a place near the top in Ohio history.
Their journey started in the fall, where they were the defending state champions in cross country. They had a core group returning from the previous year and were the favorites coming into the season. They embraced the challenge, dominating the rest of the state en route to the state championship. I spent time with the team after the season to sit down and ask them to reflect on their accomplishments for the fall. The resounding response was that they had planned to have a very special season.
