Division II Girls State Meet Preview - Five Events to Watch

This is the Division II Girls State Meet Preview. Inside you will find five events that will be of interest to the general track and field fan. While this Preview will not be as in depth as the Division I preview, this is in no way a slight to the many great athletes that have made it to the Division II State meet. Simply it is just a matter of time available to be able to do a preview for both Division II and Division III at the state level.

It's an honor for all athletes to make the state meet, and OHRunners wishes everyone the best.

Ones To Watch

Gillespie has a great chance to win the 1600m earlier in the day. She may be strong enough to come back and win the 3200m, but she will have to hold off the Navarre Regional runner up in Zangmeister, who will be running fresh and with something to prove. Gillespie doubled and held off Zangmeister last week, lets see if she can do it again. These two are really out in front of the rest of the field, but keep an eye Kreider and Selhorst at they fight to finish in the top 3.

15 965 Kayla Caldwell, Gnadenhutten Indian Valley 11 11'00.00"
16 805 Julia Walters, Bellevue 10 10'04.00"

Ones to Watch

Caldwell won the state meet last year with a jump of 12'4" and she set the Division II state Record with a jump of 12'9" earlier last season. The question will be if she will be able to fully recover from running three prelims the night before. Watch out as Caldwell has already gone 12'5" this season and could up her state meet record this year. Also keep an eye on Rasnick and Fields to make a run at the gold if Caldwell faulters. Wyatt is another that if she is clean could place high in the pole vault

Discus

1 836 Mychelle Furlan, Johnstown-Monroe 11 116'00"
2 124 Ashley Evanich, Minerva 12 118'09"
3 724 Amy Evans, Urbana 12 118'03"

2 525 Ali Roth, Shelby 12 123'02"
3 939 Jessie Rowland, Germantown Valley View 12 124'07"
4 422 Nicole Fore, Washington C.H. Washington 11 114'08"
5 247 Kaitlyn Griffith, Orrville 12 121'03"
6 551 KaiCee Kubicina, Newton Falls 12 132'10"
7 930 Anna Knapski, Canton South 11 120'07"
8 422 Ciara Whitmer, Johnstown Northridge 12 113'09"

Ones To Watch

Murphy has been bombing both the disc and shot in the post season, setting a PR in the disc at the district meet and PR in the shot at the regional meet. If Kubicina can rebound from her regional performance, she has a chance at taking home the gold. Brobeck has been consistent the last three weeks and is ready to go big at the state meet. Roth will likely be the fourth thrower on the top half of the podium.

7 223 DeNesha Howard, Orrville 12 25.59
8 348 Daianna Barron, Warrensville Heights 10 25.71

Ones to Watch

Pettigrew, DeVonne Howard, and Cavin are the only three ladies in DII to dip below 25 seconds so far this year, but look for a few more to do the same this weekend. Look for Howard to be the one to take the gold. The next five spots will be a fight, but look for Humphries to make a move and go after a spot in the top three.
