Mason Cross Country Invitational
.
Section 1 Boys Varsity
The 42nd running of the Mason Cross Country Invitational promises to be as good as ever. Sr. Zach Birdsall of Fairfield is the defending D1 Boys champion. He was 8th in the OHSAA Early Season Invitational and won last weekend at the Queen City invitational. He'll be challenged by Jr. Lucas Bons of Dublin Coffman who was 3rd last year and Yared Nuguse of duPont Manual of Louisville, Ky. (KY #19), who was 4th.
The Mason boys are the defending team champions, as they dominated the field last year, scoring just 39 points. They are 5th in the Coaches Poll and 6th in the Saucony Flo 50 Rankings. They should defend their title, but the duPont team who was 5th last year is KY ranked #9 team.

Sr. Josh Wolpert of Badin was #2 last year and his teammates Sr's. Sam Krabacher and Nick Rand were 4th and 5th. They return and lead the Badin team who won last year with 67 points over Indian Hill, who had 68. If Badin and Indian Hill return as expected, throw in Carroll who is ranked 6th in OATCCC Poll and 7th in Saucony Flo 50 Rankings, and it should be a very competitive race.

Alena Sapienza-Wright of duPont Manual was 2nd last year (on right above). She is currently the #2 ranked girls in Ky. The duPont girls are the #3 ranked team in Ky. The host team Mason girls, led by Sr. Ellie Brush (5th last year), are ranked 4th in both the OATCCC Poll and the Saucony Flo5o Rankings. They will have their hands full with duPont, but it should be a great early September test.
