2016 Ohio Milesplit Year in Review


2016 OUTDOOR

Kalee Soehnlen anchored the St. Thomas Aquinas girls to a new D3 State Record in the 4x800 with a time of 9:05.84.  Kalee was joined in the relay by Athena Welsh, Kacee Soehnlen and Hanna Soehnlen.  The Aquinas girls won the team title anchored by Sr. Athena Welsh shown below winning the D3 3,200m.  Welsh also won the 1,600 earlier in the day.(photos Chris Greene)


Geneva's Brittany Aveni won the D1 girl's 80m setting a new D1 State record in a time of 2:07.04.  (photo Chris Greene)


Andrew Jordan continued his record setting season outdoors with a new State record in the 3,200, running 8:54.96.  (photo Chris Greene)

Stiver's Tyler Johnson had a great Indoor season and capped off his outdoor season with a US #5 46.19.  He set a new D2 State meet record of 46.52 in winning the D2 State 400m with week before.  His 46.19 is Ohio #2 All-Time.  (photo M. Stonecipher)


Chagrin Falls Joe Bistritz was undefeated in Ohio in the 1,600, winning the D2 boy's State championship in 4:05.62, establishing new DII, DII State Meet and Owen's Stadium 1,600m records.  His 4:05.62 was a new #1 Ohio All-Time 1,600m.  (photo Chris Greene)

Strongville's Cassie Martin won her 3rd straight D1 girl's High Jump with a leap of 5-9.  Martin was also a three time D1 Indoor Stat Champion.  (photo M. Stonecipher)


In one of the best and closets finishes of the 2016 State Meet, Gahanna Lincoln Freshman Madison Martinez nipped Centerville Sr. Lainey Studebaker to win the D1 girl's 4x800m.  (photo Chris Greene)  Martinez anchored the Gahanna girl's to a new indoor 4x800m record in thr OATCCC Indoor Championships.  (photo Chris Greene)



Dublin Coffman's Abby Steiner won the 100 and the 200 and shown here, anchored a come from behind win for the Dublin Coffman girl's in the D1 4x200m.  Stiener got the baton a good 10m back and in perhaps the most exciting race of the State meet, ran down Withrow's Mercedes Smith to take the win in 1:38.53.  Withrow ran 1:38.54.  (photo Chris Greene)


Andrew Jordan again proved why he was the MileSplit  Male Athlete of the year with a US #3, 14:41.28, 5K at the Northmont Relays.  He ran a US #2 8:46.72 3,200 at the Eastern Relays.

Andrew Jordan capped off his HS career with  a Books PR 2-Mile win in a time of 8:50.12.


Joe Bistritz and Gavin Gaynor were invited tot he Adidas Boost Boston Games Dream Mile.  Gaynor was 8th in 4:07.17.  Bistritz was 6th in 4:06.70.  (photo Chuck Martin)

Beavercreek's Ben Ewert was not included in the Championship heat of the NBNO 2K Steeplechase.  He proved why he should have been in the fast heat by winning his heat and finishing 7th overall in 6:06.05.  He would later win the USATF National Junior Olympic 2K Steeplechase with a US #1 time of 5:54.22.


Granville's Micaela DeGenero won the NBNO Mile in a time of 4:42.22. She won the OHSAA  D1 1,600 in a time of 4:53.08.  Her 4:42.22 was US #2 and an Ohio All-Time #2 behind Stephanie Morgan's 4:41.22.  Michaela's NBNO mile time converted to a 1,600 was 4:40.58 and is an Ohio #1 All-Time 1,600, besting Emily Infleld's 2007 time of 4:41.37.  (photo Mary Ann Magnant)


Sylvania Southview's Frank Hayes became just the 2nd Ohio HS boy All-Time to run sub-1:50 in the 800m in an open race.  His 1:49.16 in repeating as the D1 OHSAA 800m champion, was a new Owens Stadium
Record, breaking the 1:50.77 run by Cory Leslie of Sandusky Perkings in 2008.  Hayes joins the very elite, All-Time Ohio, 800m  Sub-1:50 category along with Marc Sylvester of St. Ignatius who has the record of 1:48.93 set in 2001.

McComb Jr. Molly Leppelmeier won the OHSAA  D3 Stat Shot Put championship with a put of 46-9.  She followed thqt up with a 7th at NBNO with a toss of 46-7.25. (photo Jeff George)


Withrow Jr. Albert Kalala won the NBNO High Jump with a lepa of 6-10.25.  He was the D1 State Champion with a leap of 6-10.
