Kent State University #3 - Event Recap

           The Girls 3200m was one of many high quality races that took place at Kent State. 


MileSplit Ohio was on site to take in the action at the recent Kent State University #3 meet which took place at the Kent State Fieldhouse.  Many of Ohio's finest track and field athletes were on hand to display their skills and to engage in competitive events.  Additionally, the prominent Speed Academy Club from Ontario, Canada joined those from throughout The Buckeye State and their presence raised the overall level of competition.   

Pickerington Central athlete's went 1-2 in the Girls 60m race with McKenzie Long leading the way with her 7.62 effort. Long's teammate, Shae Douglas was not far behind with her time of 7.79. Douglas ran an Ohio #11 time of 7.77 in the 60m prelims while Long has recorded an Ohio tie for #2 time of 7.55 earlier this season at the MileSplit Scholastic Showcase at Spire meet.

           Mckenzie Long is excited to test herself against the best in the state in Akron on March 4th. 


In the Girls 3200m race, Olentangy Liberty's Gracie Sprankle led the way with an Ohio #16 finishing time of 11:24.83. Clare Willet of Woodridge and Leah Lisle from St. Vincent-St. Mary's rounded out the top 3 with Willet finishing in an Ohio #30 time of 11:39.00 and Lisle securing an 11:43.97 result.  


           The anticipation starting to build prior to the start of the Girls 3200m race. 


In boys action, Daquan Berry of the Speed Academy took the 60m win with an outstanding time of 7.01 while in the 60m Hurdles competition, Woodridge's Jacob Mally claimed 1st place with his narrow victory over Pickerington Central's Crockett Schooler.  Mally posted a finishing time of 8.25 while Schooler registered an 8.37 result. 


           Daquan Berry traveled from north of the border and put on a show in the Boys 60m race.

The distance event's saw Nick Miller of Wadsworth High School and Brunswick's Andre Bollam-Godbott take wins at Kent State.  Miller ran solo for the majority of the 1 Mile race on route to his emphatic victory in 4:25.34.  Miller indicated, after his race, that despite his 8 second clearance over the 2nd place finisher - he felt some disappointment over just missing out on a qualifying time for the prestigious New Balance Nationals which will take place later this season.  Miller will be competing at the State Championship in Akron on March 4th; while he has qualified for several events, he has not yet decided on what he will participate in.

Andre Bollam-Godbott won the 3200m event in an Ohio #14 time of 9:28.84 with Thomas Worthington's Andy Payne claiming the 2nd spot in 9:31.65.  Payne has run 9:27.44 at a previous meet this season which ranks him 11th in the state at the 3200m distance. 


           Wadsworth High School's Nick Miller cruised to victory in the Boys 1 Mile race. 


           Nick Miller has several options regarding what he can participate in at State's in Akron. 


           Andre Bollam-Godbott won the 3200m race in an impressive time of 9:28.84. 


Other notable performances include Zavien Parker of Pickerington Central High School who took the 200m win and Medina's Jacob Wickey who captured a resounding victory in the Weight Throw competition. Parker's 22.17 effort is an Ohio #3 and it was tops among a very talented field of 200m specialists while Ohio #1 ranked Jacob Wickey produced a mark of 72-11.00 in the Weight Throw. Wickey, who is also ranked #1 in the country, produced a season's best result of 78-0 at the MileSplit Scholastic Showcase at Spire meet on February 12th.  


           Zavien Parker had to hold off some of his own PC teammates to secure the 200m win.  


           U.S. #1 ranked Jacob Wickey dominated the Boys Weight Throw competition.
