McDonald High School's Malina Mitchell took the race win in a time of 19:41.20.
The Billy Goat Challenge took place at Woodland Park in McDonald, Ohio and it served as the 2017 XC season opener for most of the athletes who were competing.
Chardon High School's Nate Kawalec got his season off to a winning start as he captured 1st place with his time of 16:31.30. Following Kawalec were Tyler Klouda and Noah Perrin, who both put forth a spirited kick to the finish. Garfield's Klouda edged Perrin at the line with his time of 17:01.30 for 2nd place. Woodridge's Perrin produced a 17:01.90 effort for 3rd position.

McDonald High School had the top two performers in the girls race, as Malina Mitchell and Anna Guerra both comfortably broke the 20 minute barrier. Mitchell claimed the win with her time of 19:41.20 and Guerra secured 2nd place with her 19:52.60 effort.
