Dustin Horter finished in 6th place with his time of 15:21.20.
All five athletes from the Buckeye State who competed at this afternoon's Nike Cross Nationals in Portland, Oregon performed admirably while testing themselves against the best runners from throughout the country.
Dustin Horter and Conant Smith both took home All-America honors, as they finished in 6th and 8th place respectively. Horter posted a stellar time of 15:21.20 to take 6th and Smith secured 8th position with his impressive 15:24.90 effort. A great deal of perseverance was demonstrated by both athletes, as they recorded high quality finishing times despite competing in less than ideal weather conditions on the Glendoveer Golf Course. Horter moved up many places from his result at the 2016 Nike Cross Nationals and Smith was the 3rd place athlete among those who are eligible to return for next year's race.
Friendly rivals, Horter & Smith had several spirited contests against one another this year.
In the girls race, Taylor Ewert led the Ohio charge with her 18th place finish and she was followed closely by Morgan Gigandet, who was 20th. Gracie Sprankle was 38th across the line against the deepest field that the nation can offer. Ewert's time was 18:06.00 and Gigandet clocked a 18:09.40 finish. Sprankle recorded an 18:35.10 result. Ewert and Gigandet secured All-American status with their top 21 placements.
Morgan Gigandet closed her cross country season with a fantastic result at NXN.
