Dustin Horter shown here putting the finishing touches on his outstanding 1600m effort.
Dustin Horter recorded a time of 4:07.52 to claim the 1600m race win at yesterday's D1 OATCCC Indoor State Championship at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva. The Lakota East stand-out set an aggressive early pace and he never eased up, as he led wire to wire on his way to a second consecutive Indoor State Title. Horter indicated post-race that he was highly motivated by the impressive performance that Colonel Crawford's Chad Johnson displayed earlier in the day in the 1600m event during the D2 / D3 meet. Johnson posted a stellar time of 4:10.89 to set, at that point, a new SPIRE facility record for high school boys.
Along with adding to his state championship collection, Horter established a new pr (indoor), a new Lakota East school record (lowering the one which he already owned), a new SPIRE Institute record and his time represents an Ohio No. 1 and a US No. 1 (not including 1 Mile converted results).
Following the race, the Indiana University signee referenced his excitement about competing against some of the nation's best athletes at the upcoming New Balance Nationals Indoor meet in New York City, among other things. Check out Dustin's interview below:
