(MileSplit caught up with Savannah Dennison following her 800m and 1600m victories)
Savannah Dennison was one of the favorites on paper heading into Thursday evening's 800m and 1600m contests at the NEOITC Blue Division meet, and the middle schooler from Mentor Memorial ended up delivering on the track when it counted. She went 2:23.50 and 5:12.77 to capture a pair of impressive wins. Both results stand as personal bests for the 8th-grader.
In the 1600, Mentor athletes went 1, 2, 3 with Anna Evans taking runner-up honors in 5:16.97 and Maddie Hull securing third place due to her 5:30.47 effort. Solon distance stand-out, Olivia Howell was on the original start-list but had to scratch after a minor calf tweak in the 4x800 earlier in the evening. Hopefully a Dennison / Howell match-up takes place later on in the series.
The 800 saw three runners go 2:25 or better - in addition to Dennison, Perry senior Anna Sorine clocked 2:24.22 for second and a new face on the distance scene emerged with Kenston freshman Jocelyn Van Skyhock going 2:25.96 for third in the standings.
