Boys: Bold Predictions, Events To Watch At Spire Showcase

Bold Prediction 2

Sub-7.0 Will Not Guarantee a Spot in the 60m Dash Finals

The depth in the 60m dash this Sunday is unmatched in most early February meets.

Led by Pickerington Central's Lorenzo Styles, Jr. and his 6.89 best from a month ago, 20 boys sit within .20 seconds of each other in this event. Motor City Track Club (MI) senior James Flournoy and Southwestern (KY) senior Jp Vaught are both neck and neck at 6.94 and 6.93 respectively, with Flournoy's 6.94 having come this season and Vaught's 6.93 having come in 2017. But don't let that fool you - Vaught ran 10.74/21.65 in the 100/200 this outdoor season so he should be a top contender this weekend. Not too far behind these three is Dylan Brown (Detroit King - MI) who has run 6.95 this season.

Nine more athletes create a logjam between 7.00-7.05 in the entries, all of whom are capable of breaking 7.00 in the event. With each athlete vying for one of ten spots, there may be someone sub-7 getting left out of finals. Keep an eye on the speed demons in the 60 dash because we could be in store for one fast day.
