"She (India Johnson) broke out and helped to move our program to the next level. We've tried to build off what she did in hopes to propel our program even further."

Varsity, open and freshman / sophomore races were contested at Saturday's Hot Summer Bash meet, hosted on the campus of Hilliard Davidson High School

Near perfect weather, a flat, fast course and the fact that many of the athletes on hand already had a race or two under their belts this season helped lead to some of the state's top marks being achieved in both varsity division events.

In men's action, Elliott Cook out of Dublin Jerome picked up his second win of the season with a 15:37.10 showing. This effort follows up his opener at the OHSAA Early Invite on August 17th, where he crossed the line first in 15:57.60.

On the ladies side, Hilliard Davidson junior Lindsay Stull moved up one place from her runner-up finish at the 2018 edition of the meet. Stull eclipsed the 18 minute barrier with a time of 17:59.30 for the win. Her clocking usurps the previous course record of 17:59.67, which was set by India Johnson in 2016. Johnson, who now competes for Michigan State University, still owns the Hilliard Davidson team record of 17:07.50, which she established at NXN Midwest in 2016.
