Caleb Brown jump-started his 2020 indoor season by picking up right where his 2019 XC campaign left off. The Shelby senior and Wisconsin Badgers signee outlasted an accomplished field of distance specialists on Friday evening at Liberty University, where he pocketed the Invitational 1 Mile victory with a new personal best clocking of 4:15.19.
Brown, who broke out this past cross country season with a Division 2 state title to go along with 2nd and 3rd place finishes at NXRMW and NXN, respectively, was one of the meet's featured athletes. You can watch his pre-competition press conference video HERE ...
In terms of where Brown's '20 debut mark positions him - to put it mildly, in a 'good place'. His 4:15+ effort easily lands him at the top of Ohio's 1 Mile leaderboard and at No. 4 nationally. When we convert that imperial time down to the metric 1600 distance, it equates to a 4:13.71, which is tops in Ohio and fourth in America.
Keeping in mind that Brown put up this kind of showing despite 'not having a lot of speed in his legs,' as he told MileSplit's Jason Creasy - it suggests that big things are ahead once his training starts to round into form.
