The Stark County Championships took place this Saturday at GlenOak High School and produced many fast performances by athletes across the county. With both individual state champions along with team champions in the race, this meet proved to be competitive throughout the day.

To kick off the first race of the day, Tommy Rice from GlenOak won the Boys Varsity Division and his time of 15:06.19 set him up for the current third fastest time in the state.
Colin Cernansky from Marlington finished runner-up overall and the winner of the Division II/III championship. Along with this impressive individual performance, he was also able to lead the defending state championship team of Marlington to win the overall team title. This is their second consecutive overall team title at Stark County.
The boys Division I title went to Massillon Jackson led by Elliot Zuckett who finished 3rd overall and 2nd in Division I.
On the girls side, Daniela Scheffler from Uniontown-Lake won the Girls Varsity Division in a time of 18:23.36 to add to her impressive season so far. She has made great progress as she improved by just over 72 seconds from last year's meet. The excitement continued for Scheffler as she led Lake to their second Division I Stark County Championship title in history.
Bella Graham from Marlington was the runner-up overall and finished first in the Division II/III race. Within the team race, the defending state championship team of Minerva won with their second consecutive overall title. This was also their second overall championship in history.
The Stark County Championships opened up championship season for many of these teams, as many will compete in league meets these next few weeks. On October 22nd, many of these teams will be back to compete at GlenOak for the district meet.
