Introducing David Nguyen As MileSplit Ohio Associate Editor

(The MileSplit USA coverage team at this past summer's AAU Junior Olympic Games)

I am excited to announce a structural and strategic change to MileSplit Ohio, which begins today.

I am pleased to introduce David Nguyen as our new associate state editor.

David joined our coverage team a year ago and made an immediate and profound impact on our reporting. A talented videographer and photographer, David possesses many attributes that make up a great journalist, including a high aptitude for the profession and an ability to showcase his diverse skill-set when encountering pressure-intensive situations.

Most importantly, David displays an appetite to listen, learn, improve and evolve. After a comprehensive recruitment search (I'd be remiss if I didn't thank the dozens of applicants who expressed interest in the role over the past five months), David emerged as the top candidate to steer our site to the next level.

While it's with mixed emotions that I step down from my day-to-day duties on the ground, I am comforted knowing that our coverage is being left in David's capable hands. I've truly enjoyed my time guiding the Ohio site, a tenure which began in December 2016, and I'm happy to have the opportunity to transition to a new role within MileSplit.

Moving forward I will continue to oversee partnerships and data management for MileSplit Ohio as well as some remote content creation, while also leveraging my efforts toward building and growing several of our other Midwestern state sites.

David will gradually assume content creation as well as all meet coverage, live streaming and social media responsibilities and will be the driving force for our team on the ground in the Buckeye State.

For the time being, as David acclimates to his new position, the best way to reach us is by filling out our customer support form and outlining all available fields to ensure your issue gets funneled to the correct department, which will ultimately lead to its most timely resolution.

Please join me in welcoming David Nguyen to our MileSplit Ohio team!

Hello everyone!

My name is David Nguyen and I'll be taking the reins as the associate state editor for MileSplit Ohio.

I'm originally from Roanoke, Virginia where I ran for Patrick Henry High School. Now I represent the Tiffin University Dragons program in cross country and track.

My interest in photography began during a time when I was injured and unable to compete for my team. It was a way to continue having involvement during the down period and it was then that I became deeply engaged in the journalistic side of the sport.

I eventually reached out to Mark Dwyer at MileSplit Ohio about contributing to the site and I was brought on-board to their coverage team beginning last December. I quickly realized how passionate I was about the Ohio cross country and track and field community and it became my goal to help build our sports within the state.

In a relatively short period of time, I've gained a tremendous amount of experience. I've covered meets at indoor venues such as the LAB in Ypsilanti, SPIRE, Tiffin, Ashland. Findlay and Bowling Green plus countless other sites throughout the outdoor track and field and cross country seasons.

Among my personal highlights are having had opportunities to cover adidas Nationals and the AAU Junior Olympic Games alongside the MileSplit USA team members Cory Mull, Olivia Ekpone, Ashley Tysiac and Mark Dwyer, who was also on-site reporting with them in Greensboro.

A big shout-out, as well, goes to Nolan Jez (MileSplit Virginia editor), who assigned me to cover several meets in Virginia when I was home visiting last summer.

During my time contributing to MileSplit Ohio, I've learned a lot from Mark Dwyer, as well as veteran members of his staff like Shawn Conlon, Christian Lisle and Phil Grove (aka OldSchoolTrack). This knowledge gained has provided me with a broad perspective of how the site contributes to our sport in both front-facing and behind the scenes ways.

I'm excited to get to work and showcase the achievements of the state's athletes and teams, as I start with my new position as associate editor of MileSplit Ohio!

Happy Days,

David Nguyen
