Championship Week: Preview

Division 1

Based off of the final performance list, the Top-4 Boys in the 1600m are slated to compete in this race on Saturday, and it is looking to be certainly one to look out for, with each having a personal best of 4:10 and under in the event, along with only 2.25 seconds separating 1 and 4.

Another thing as well, these four will be familiar with each other, as at some point or another throughout the season, they competed against each other. The two big examples being Cayden Dyer/Noah Johnson at the Mason Rod Russell Invitational, and Connor Ackley/Ben Gabelman at Wayne Invitational.

While the Division 1 record might be somewhat of a reach for these three, but not impossible, we could potentially see the State Meet and Facility record go down, which are both 4:05.

Maira Scott, Summer Swartwout, Olivia Pace, Abby Love

100m/200m

Just like the Boys 1600m Run, the Girls 100m/200m Dash could be anyone's race, and these two events are looking to be the most anticipated races to look forward to this weekend.

Asides from these four constantly changing up the rankings list all season in the two events, all of them have in the spotlight this year rooting back to the indoor season, where all of them were on the podium for their respective individual events

To top it off, these four have all gone nearly undefeated or have gone undefeated this season in the sprint double.

Troy Lane

100m/200m

Yup, put this man on the record watch to break the state record in the 100m Dash again because honestly, it would not be a surprise if he scorched his old record of 10.25 that he also set last year at the OHSAA Division 1 Outdoor State Championships.

At the start of the season, while not wind legal, he clocked a 10.19 in the Invitational 100m Dash at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, and then set a season best of 10.28 at Arcadia Invitational, followed by a 10.27w at OHSAA Division 1 Region 3 - Pickerington.

Guess the question that remains is: How fast?

But we'll just have to see.

DJ Fillmore

100m/200m/Long Jump

Another one to put on record watch, DJ is currently the only person in Ohio that has a 200m Dash performance under 21 seconds, with his personal best of 20.86, which he set at OHSAA Division 1 Region 3 - Pickerington.

With the current state record being 20.47 set by Chris Nelloms back in 1990, while not impossible, it is going to take something special from DJ to set the new All-Time #1 in this event. However, there is another record that he could likely break, and that would be the facility record of 21.09 set last year by Troy Lane.

Sarah Peer, Katie Clute, Julia Isham

3200m

Safe to say, this race is going to be a fast one, as all three of them are seeded 1-2-3 for the Girls 3200m, with each of their performances being set at the same meet and in the same race, with only less than two seconds separating them.

Along with that, the trio are also currently 1-2-3 on the Ohio rankings for the event

As it stands, Julia Isham will be the only one competing the 3200m on fresh legs, while Sarah and Katie are both slated to compete in the 1600m, with Sarah also competing in the 4x800m Relay on Friday.

Camden Bentley

100mH/300mH

You've heard her name all winter and spring, and she's looking to close out her Ohio campaign on another record in the 110mH, as we all have seen this past winter in the 60mH, where she broke the record several times over the course of the few months.

She actually reset the All-Times list at OHSAA Division 1 Region 3 - Pickerington with her blazing 13.31 performance in the event, although this was technically her second time running that mark, and tack on a 13.29 when taking into account any all-condition performances.

If anything is clear, it is that she has shown her dominance in the hurdles, as she is also set to double back in the 300mH, being the only person in the field under 43 seconds.

Just like last year, we could see her pull off the sweep in the hurdles once again.
