State Scoop: Ohio Leaderboards Get Re-Written Over Past Week

In the sprints, freshman phenom Jamier Averette-Brown clocked 6.76 to win the 60m finals after producing a preliminary round best mark of 6.86. His finals mark stations him in a tie for No. 8 Ohio all-time. 

Averette-Brown also took the runner-up spot in the 200 going 21.62, which represents a new personal best at the distance. 

Winning the aforementioned 200 was Elyria's Mateo Medina, who ran a PR time of 21.55. Medina also earned the 400m meet title with a US No. 4 mark of 47.80 and posted multiple sub 7-second 60 meter performances, 6.99 for 6th in the prelims and 6.87 to secure second behind Averette-Brown in the finals. 

Wayne won the 4x200m relay in 1:28.88 and were represented by Sean Westmoreland, Key'Shawn Garrett, Charles Jackson Solomon and Jamier Averette-Brown. Their mark is an Ohio No. 1 and US No. 13. 

Ryan Smith overtook the state lead in the 3200 following his runner-up effort. The Furman University signee crossed the line in 9:17.11. 

Also, notably from Michigan, Anthony Wayne's Connor Long secured the imperial 1 mile win going 4:18.92, narrowly missing the state lead owned by Westerville North's Ben Gabelman (4:18.52 from the MSTCA Holiday Challenge back in December). 

Youngstown State, Ashland University & Capital University

The elite performances were not confined to only the Wolverines' venue, however. Elsewhere, new top marks were displayed by Dillon Morlock at YSU, Matthew Schroff at Ashland and Aslan Jenkins at Capital. 

Morlock continues to move the mark during each outing with his most recent work at the WATTS earning him a pair of event victories. 

In the weight throw he tossed 69-2 for a US No. 2 and 65-10 in the shot put, which represents his second best mark of the season. He launched a career best 66-4.5 at Kent State earlier this month. 

Morlock, a Michigan State Spartans commit, was featured Monday on the MileSplit USA 'For The Record' series with our national editor Cory Mull.

At Ashland, Schroff clocked 4:15.58 for a US No. 11 performance. 

This was the junior classman's season debut after earning All-Ohio honors at the OHSAA State Cross Country Championships back in November.

Aslan Jenkins, Dublin Scioto, opened his campaign at Capital where he took the high jump victory successfully clearing 6-6, a significant improvement over his 2023 outdoor best of 6-0.
