Nixon Wins Surprise 1600m Title

---

An accomplished runner who has seen plenty of success on the track, no one should be surprised to see that Riley Nixon won today's 1600m title, but given how his season has gone, it came across as a big surprise today.

Nixon came into today's meet with modest times of 4:35, 4:35, and 4:25 in the 1600m so far this indoor season, far off his best outdoor 1600m time of 4:14. With that in mind, he came into today's meet ranked as the #10 indoor 1600m running for D2/3.

He then went out and dominated the competition, including many runners ranked above him, finishing with a time of 4:15.46, winning by almost three seconds. This was a 10-second indoor PR for Nixon and put him less than a second off his outdoor PR.
