Katy Zang Extends Season Win Streak To Three At Mason Invite

(Section 1 Varsity Division)

Mason, OH -- On Saturday at Corwin Nixon Pine Hill Park, Katy Zang extended her 2024 season opening individual win streak to three with a triumph in the Section 1 Varsity Division contest during the landmark 50th installment of the Mason Cross Country Invitational.

Zang, a junior class runner representing Teays Valley High School, put a decisive number 1 on the board for her squad, breaking the tape against a collection of the top Southwest Ohio talent by an impressive 1:34 margin over her nearest opposition.

The latest effort by Zang led her team to fifth overall in the standings. This follows a pair of 3rd place outings for the Vikings at Newark Catholic and Westerville North, where she produced individual victories in times of 17:17.67 and 17:18.49, respectively.

Zang's 17:14.7 mark at Mason represents a new school record, according to the Teays Valley cross country X social media page.

A model of consistency in the early portion of the '24 campaign, Zang is displaying significant improvement over a high quality sophomore season that saw her place 8th at District Hilliard Darby, 19th at Region 3 Pickerington North and 76th at the Division I state meet.

Since her time racing on grass in 2023, Zang continued to hone her craft by building her track-based accolades with a 6th place showing in the 1600 at the OATCCC Indoor State Championships and then taking 11th in the 3200 at the OHSAA Outdoor State Championships

Following their recent trip to the Southwest, a return to Central Region competition is looming for Zang and Teays Valley, as they're scheduled to line-up at the Dublin Jerome Celtic Clash and Olentangy Berlin Bear Den Dash during the last two Saturday's of the month.
