News & Notes: Rock Wins at adidas, Ohio Sprints Round Up

Ohio, Say Hello to Outdoors

Kadia Rock won the 200m and 400m at adidas Indoor Nationals, setting herself up well leading into the outdoor season.

Kadia Rock closed her indoor season out by winning two events at the adidas Track Nationals, which ran from March 20-22 in Virginia Beach. She caps off indoors at the top of the leaderboard across a handful of events--here's how the full Ohio indoor girls sprint lists look now that the season has wrapped up.

MORE FROM THE MEET

Rock came into adidas with unfinished business. Last year at the same meet, Natalie Dumas of Eastern Regional, NJ, won the 400m in 53.66 with Rock finishing second in 54.66. This year they met again in the championship 400m final. Rock held a season best of 53.51 coming in, sitting US#7. Dumas had run 53.68 for US#9. They even drew adjacent lanes: Rock in lane 5, Dumas in lane 6.

Dumas held a narrow lead at the break, with Louisiana State Champion Jaleyia Woods of Woodlawn pushing on the inside in lane 2. Rock stayed patient. She pulled ahead of Dumas going into the final turn and powered through the line in 53.46, a personal best, breaking Dumas' meet record from the year before. Dumas took 2nd in 54.35. Woods finished 4th in 55.62 behind Taylor Jenkins of Western Branch, VA in 55.06.
