Tomorrow, teams will compete at the regional championships for a spot on the line at next weekend’s state meet. Here are five storylines to watch.
Top Two Preview in Troy
Springboro and Mason are ranked #1 and #3 in the most recent OATCCC DI Boys coaches' poll. Both will compete in the Troy Division I Regional this upcoming weekend. They currently have the best lineup averages in the state. Mason averages 15:38 for their top five runners, led by Logan Mix. Springboro falls just behind at 15:40 with Nicholas Beatty as their consistent top performer.
Will Liberty Center’s momentum catch Minster?
Everyone on Liberty Center’s lineup set a personal best at last week’s district meet. They are now gaining momentum to challenge Minster. These two teams will prove to be a close matchup at the Tiffin Division IV Regional. Minster has a strong 1-2-3 up front with Elizabeth Niekamp, Joanna Topp and Claire Bohman all running under 18:40. Liberty Center’s Colbie Strayer should hold things down up front. Seeing where the cards fall with each team’s fourth and fifth runners could make all the difference.
Youngstown DIII Showdown
The Youngstown DIII Regional will contain three of the top four boys teams from the most recent OATCCC DIII Boys Coaches Poll. Woodridge enters as the favorite with two strong frontrunners, John Brock and Remington Griffiths, each cracking the 15:40 mark this season. Fairless and Chagrin Falls should be a tight battle. Brice Fuller from Fairless holds the second fastest time in the state with 14:54.10. Chagrin Falls will take the tighter spread and try to get five across the line as fast as possible.
Fast Individuals in Columbus
Three boys in the top-10 OH times. Same region. The Pickerington DI Regional will be an individual battle between Austin Benedict from New Albany, Calvin Watson from Thom. Worthington and Logan Behm from Hil. Darby. Each of these athletes already cracked the 15:10 mark this season.
Bocik and Miesse Battle in Tiffin
The Tiffin DII Regional will showcase Julia Bocik from Syl. Southview and Elle Miesse from Celina. Both captured personal bests, cracking the 17:30 mark at their respective districts last weekend. They will compete against each other for the first time this season. Bocik and Miesse have both won their past four races.
