Catching Up with Top Returners: Jack Miller

-Athlete Name: Jack Miller

-School: St. Ignatius

-Year of Graduation: 2013

-Best time in a 5K race and in which meet:

My best time is 15:50 at the 2011 State Meet.

-Tell us how your summer training is going?

It's going well so far. My average weekly mileage is about 45-50 and I just hit my peak mileage at 55.

-What are your goals for the upcoming season?

Hopefully I finish in the top 5 at states. But more importantly, my main goal is the team title. My team came in second last year and we want it really bad this year. It was hard falling just short last year.

-How long have you been running and how did you get started?

This year will be my fifth year of running. I started running in 8th grade when my parents wanted me to get in better shape for soccer. I ran well in my first race and I've been running ever since.

-Will you be competing anywhere out of state this season?

Not during the regular season. I hope to run both Foot Locker and Nike with my team and see how we do. The experience would be awesome.

-What is your favorite course to run in Ohio?

My favorite course is Tiffin. My team runs at the Tiffin Carnival and our regional meet is there. It's fast and it's one of the biggest meets in the country.

-What is the toughest course to run in Ohio?

The toughest course I think is Tiffin. The weather is usually not the greatest. There's a hill with about 600/800 meters left and it’s hard on your legs with the race almost over.

-What meet during the regular season do you put extra emphasize on to compete well at?

The Midwest meet of champions. A lot of the best runners and teams from around the state come to this meet. It's nice to have a good look at the top competition in the middle of the season.

-What is your favorite cross country race so far in your high school career?

2010 and 2011 state meets. The atmosphere is absolutely awesome. All of my teammates are there cheering for the team, the crowd is so loud and pressure is at its highest, which is what I like.

-Favorite cross country memory?

My freshman year when my team won. I wasn't on the varsity, but it was awesome to watch and I always wondered how cool it would be to be a part of a state championship team.

-When you are not running what is your favorite thing to do?

I love soccer so I follow it closely and I enjoy playing FIFA. I also like hanging out with my friends on the team.

-Favorite quote?

"You're not disabled by the disabilities you have, you are able by the abilities you have"-Oscar Pistorius

-What's on your Ipod when you go out for runs?

I don't run with my iPod, but I have a playlist that I listen to before races.

-What professional athlete would you most like to meet?

Oscar Pistorius and/or Galen Rupp. Both are great inspirations for me. Oscar has done what no other man has done before him and proves that hard work pays off. Galen is the new definition of distance running in the USA. He also just made American history in the 10K
