I am proud to announce the Twenty Third running of the Mid East Cross Country Championships is scheduled for Saturday, November 21th at Indian Riffle Park in Kettering Ohio. The meet is located next to the Kettering Recreation Complex and Kettering Fairmont Junior High School. The Women will race at 11:00 am, followed by the Men at 11:30 am. For more specific meet information, go to the official meet web site: http://www.oatccc.com/crosscountry/Mideast/mideast5.html
The Ohio, Illinois and Indiana teams will be determined next week, after the state meets this weekend. Michigan will have their "Race in" meet on Saturday, November 14, to see who will be representing them on the 21st.
There have been a few modifications to this year's course lay out. It seems to race a few seconds faster than in the past. We'll have to see how this year's crop of seniors do on it! Only four states have accepted the invitation to compete this year, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Michigan. Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Wisconsin and West Virgina are unable to send teams this year. Because of the drop in participating states, the committee will allow the four competing states to race as many as 12 senior athletes per team, twelve men and twelve woman.
For those of you who might not know about this meet, it pits the top twelve senior men and women in head to head competition with the top twelve seniors for the other participating states. All twelve athletes figure into the scoring as the top five are the actual point makers, while the next seven (not next two) act as displacers. Yes, there are other "Champion" races like Foot Locker and the Nike event, but there is nothing like the Mid East in the country that I know of, for seniors only. You will have a chance to see forty eight top Quality "Senior only" Cross Country athletes, from four states, go at it, head to head in each race!
At Noon, there is an Open Race, "The Mid East Challenge", for the first 200 registrants that would like to run the same course as the All Star Senior high school athletes. The Challenge race has been almost as exciting as the Championship race in the recent years. We have past runners who come back to see if they still "have it" against the younger runners that hope to represent their state in the next year or two or the students that just missed being selected for this year's State Team. Information about the race with entry forms and past results can be obtained by going to the above link or trying: http://www.keysports.net, and clicking on "Events and Results" and scrolling down to "November 21" or you can try the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches link also: http://www.oatccc.com/ Feel free to come in on Friday and register for the Cross Country Clinic featuring Joe Newton and Joe Vigil! This Clinic is sponsored by the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches. The clinic registration information can also be found on the www.oatccc.com link.
