This might be the single deepest concentration of talent in an event at a state meet this winter. US #2 Logan Kusky, #4 Nick Lane, #5 Nik Curtiss, #6 Jake Wickey, and #8 Brent Fairbanks will all be swinging a heavy ball around and trying to throw it the farthest out of a cage.
2. D1 boys shot put, after 9:30 AM girls shot put
Curtiss is the only boy in that group who is ranked in the top fifteen in the nation in the weight and shot. He's US #6 and will face stiff competition from US #7 Ben Peterson.
3. D1 boys pole vault, 9:30 AM
US #7 Lucas Kelley and t-#8 Matt Peare are separated by just a quarter inch this year. Per our compare athletes tool, Peare is 4-3 against Kelley in their last seven matchups--but all four of those wins came outdoors and Kelley is a staggering 15-0 against Peare indoors. So Kelley is a clear favorite, but this is one to watch. (Another edge for Kelley: Peare is running the 60 hurdles)
