MileSplit Scholastic Showcase at Spire - Relay Events Report

           Michigan's Oak Park (in orange) won the 4 x 200m and the 4 x 400m Girls Relay races. 


Individual athletes were not the only ones excelling at the recent MileSplit Scholastic Showcase at Spire, as the meet also had notable performances demonstrated in the team relay competitions.

Michigan's Oak Park made their presence known at the Spire Institute as their girls squads recorded two wins and a 2nd place finish in the three relay events. Their victories came in the 4 x 200m and the 4 x 400m and their effort in the 4 x 800m trailed only the Ann Arbor Pioneers club.

Oak Park encountered strong competition in the 4 x 200m Relay where their 1:38.87 narrowly edged the #1 Ohio ranked team from Pickerington Central. The Tigers secured 2nd place in 1:39.58. Oak Park's finishing time is a Spire Institute facility indoor record for high school girls and their result represents a Michigan #1 and a U.S. #3. PC's 2nd place effort is an Ohio #1, a U.S. #5 and it resides in 2nd place on the Spire Institute's All-Time list.


           Oak Park held off Pickerington Central High School to take the 4 x 200m Relay win. 


In 4 x 400m action, Oak Park secured a comfortable win with their 3:51.48 performance. The Gazelles claimed 2nd spot with a 3:53.84 finishing time and Gahanna Lincoln rounded out the top 3 with their 3:55.14 result.


           Oak Park maintained the lead throughout the race on route to their 4 x 400m 1st place finish.   

Another record was achieved in the 4 x 800m Relay, as the Ann Arbor Pioneers club captured an emphatic 6 second victory over Oak Park. Their 9:24.78 finishing time is a Michigan #1, a U.S. #19 and a Spire Institute facility indoor record for high school girls.  Oak Park's 9:30.90 result is a Michigan #2, a U.S. #32 and it is ranked 2nd on the Spire Institute's All-Time list. 


           The Ann Arbor Pioneers executed effective baton exchanges during their 4 x 800m win.          


Pickerington Central High School produced an Ohio #1, a U.S. #5 and the 2nd fastest Spire Institute facility time on route to winning the Boys 4 x 200m race. The Tigers 1:28.84 result ranks them behind only the 2012 Cleveland Heights team which recorded an impressive 1:28.60 performance.


           Pickerington Central produced an Ohio #1 and a U.S. #5 with their 4 x 200m Relay win. 


In the highly anticipated 4 x 400m Relay, Oak Park edged Pickerington Central in a tightly contested match-up. Oak Park registered a 3:17.65 to take the win while PC's 3:18.35 represents an Ohio #1 and a U.S. #4. Meanwhile, Oak Park's result is a Michigan #1 and a U.S. #3.  Additionally, these performances are the 2nd and 3rd fastest times on the Spire Institute's All-Time list.  The 2016 Archbishop Carroll High School team from the District of Columbia holds the record with their terrific 3:16.70 effort. 


           Oak Park won the Boys 4 x 400m Relay with an outstanding time of 3:17.65.  


Louisville High School won the 4 x 800m competition with a fantastic 8:00.93 result. Their time is an Ohio #1, a U.S. #18 and it ranks them 2nd on the All-Time Spire Institute facility list.  The 2nd place finishers from Wadsworth High School were not far behind as they posted an 8:02.18 effort.  Their result is an Ohio #2, a U.S. #25 and it is the 3rd fastest time on the Spire Institute's All-Time list.  The top time in the Spire rankings was produced by Pennsylvania's Penn Hills in 2010 with their stellar 7:59.32 performance.   


           Louisville High School took the win in the very competitive Boys 4 x 800m Relay race. 


           Wadsworth High School finished 2nd in the Boys 4 x 800m Relay with a time of 8:02.18.
