One of Ohio's top athletes has decided on his choice of college.
Conant Smith will head to Tempe next year to compete for the Arizona State Sun Devils in XC and track. The senior from Middletown announced the news on Wednesday evening.
Smith is enjoying an exceptional 2018 season to date; he's taken emphatic wins in both of his race starts. His 15:38.70 effort in his debut at the Bob Schul Invitational ranks him fourth in the state and most recently he posted a time of 15:47.60 in adverse weather conditions to earn his second consecutive Mason Invitational victory.
Smith finished in the top three at the 2016 and 2017 DI State Championship meets and he claimed eighth place at last year's Nike Cross Nationals. On the track, he took eighth at the 2018 State Championship and fifth at the 2017 State Championship - both performances occurred in the 3200m event. His impressive list of pr's include: 15:00.10 (5K XC), 1:56.04 (800), 4:12.90 (1600) and 9:14.04 (3200).
MileSplit contacted Conant to gain insight on his decision to attend ASU.
"After my official visit to Arizona State this past weekend, I absolutely fell in love with the campus, team and surrounding areas. One of the biggest reasons I chose ASU is the relationship I have with head coach, Cory Leslie. I am beyond excited for the future and I'm glad that I can now focus on the rest of my high school career."
