Girl's 5000m
Pre-race favorite Chelsea Oswald, a senior from Walsh Jesuit, picked up the victory in a US #1 time of 17:03.82, while runner-up Samantha Nadel of New York took the freshmen national record in 17:15.38.
Boy's 5000m
Marietta senior Mark Wieferich finished 14th in a time of 15:28.66.
In national news, Lukasz Verzbicas may be one of a kind in becoming a national record holder as a freshmen. Verzbicas simply dominated a field of upperclassmen runners as the ninth grader from Lincoln-Way Central in Illinois won by a whopping 43 second margin of victory. The difference between himself and his competition was almost impressive as his final time. Foot Locker Nationals champion Solomon Haile had set a new high school indoor record in the 5K only hours earlier at NSIC, but Verzbicas made it extremly short lived as he crossed the line in a new national record time of 14:18.42. Verzbicas knew that Haile had set the record earlier in the day at 14:22, and his dad told him to shoot for 14:16 going into the race. Lukasz talked about his desire to double back and win the 2 mile on Sunday. "I won't be going for the national record, I just want to win, I know it's going to be difficult."
Boy's Weight Throw
A slew of Ohio boys took their shot at the weight throw on Friday, hoping to hit a mark good enough to earn themself another three throws in the finals, but unfortunately no Ohians hit that magic throw this weekend.
The Ohio contingent of throwers was lead by Mt. Vernon senior Lucas Ferguson who finished one spot out of making the finals with a personal record throw of 63'10.5" to finish 10th.
Other Ohioans that competed in the boy's weight throw were:
Nathan Cheek, a junior from Lancaster, finished 18th with a throw of 58'5.25".
Dustin Brode, a junior from Canfield, finished 21st with a throw of 57'8.5".
Alex Lipinsky, a senior from Boardman, finished 30th with a throw of 53'6.25".
Corey Linsley, a senior from Boardman, finsihed 35th with a throw of 51'7.75".
A new national record was set by Conor McCullough from Chaminade High School in California as he smashed his old record on his final attempt at 92'7.50". It was an improvement of his own record from 2008 by roughly five feet and had another attempt over the record at 87'11.50".
Saturday
Girl's 400m
Collinwood junior Amirah Harbour finished 46th in a time of 1:02.09.
Boy's 400m
Junior Blake Heriot of Gahanna-Lincoln won his heat of the 400m prelims by running a 49.47 and will return tomorrow for the finals as he has qualified in seventh place.
Watkins Memorial senior Rob Baisden finished 48th with a time of 51.65 seconds.
Girl's 200m
Sophomore Candace Longino-Thomas finished third in her heat of the prelims and 20th overall with a season best time of 25.42.
Boy's 200m
Blake Heriot qualified with the third fastest time of the day in the 200m, clocking in at 21.93 seconds.
Boy's Pentathlon
Boardman senior Caleb Matthews finished fifth overall with 3497 points. Matthew's big points came from the 60m hurdles, where Matthews ran 8.49 seconds (2nd place, 862 points), the long jump, a season best mark for Matthews with a leap of 22'1" (3rd, 750), and the high jump where he cleared 6'3.25" (2nd, 723). Matthews set pr's in the shot put (35'1.75") and the 1000m (3:03.12).
Girl's Triple Jump
Junior Erin Busbee of Collinwood finished stroong in the triple jump by moving from eighth place to fifth place on her final attempt with a personal record jump of 39'5", two feet better than her previous best mark.
Sunday
Boy's Shot Put
Boardman senior Corey Linsley made a mark on the national scene by finishing third in the shot put, uncorking a season best throw of 60'6" on his first throw. Linsley's throw is just two inches off of his outdoor pr of 60'8" that he set last year at the Youngstown Regional Meet.
Two other Ohioans competed in the shot put at NIN. Dustin Brode, a junior from Canfield, finished 14th with a throw of 54'6.5", while Matt Hoty, a junior from Perkins, finished 16th with a throw of 54'4".
Boy's High Jump
Toledo Rogers senior Erik Kynard continued his dominance in the high jump by claring a season best 7'3" on his first attempt at the height for the victory. Kynard currently has the best mark in the nation of all high school jumpers.
University of Akron bound and current senior at Crestview-Columbiana, Jakob Leon, finished by clearing 6'5" on his first attempt.
Girl's Long Jump
Junior Erin Busbee of Collinwood, coming off of her fifth place finish in the triple jump the day before finished in 6th place in the long jump with a leap of 18'7".
Girl's 4x400m Relay
The Collinwood girls team of seniors Kimberly Hibbit and Tiera Royal and juniors Jermyra Walls and Amber Smith finished 5th in the fast heat and 6th overall with a time of 3:55.66, over two seconds faster than their season best time and second fastest time by an Ohio team this season.
Boy's 4x800m Relay
The Boarman team of seniors Ryan and Seth Westfall, junior Sam Deskin and sophomore Eddie Adu-Poku ran a season best time of 8:12.05 for a 17th place finish.
Boy's 200m
Blake Heriot finished second in his heat of the 200m finals and third overall in a time of 21.84 seconds.
Boy's 400m
Blake Heriot finished first in his heat of the 400m finals and third overall in a time of 48.30 seconds.
Girl's 800m
Junior Caitlin Hartnett of Solon finished 6th in her heat and 16th overall by running a season best time of 2:17.36. Another Ohioan that competed in the Girls 800m was Gilmour Academy junior Bekka Simko, who won her heat of the Girl's 800m and finished 18th overall by running a season best time of 2:18.64.
Girl's 60m Hurdles
Ohio went two for four in qualifying girls out of the prelims and into the semifinals of the Girl's 60m Hurdles. Qualifiers for the semifinals were Howland senior Nicole Pachol, who ran a personal record time in the prelims of 9.15 seconds, and Collinwood junior Amber Smith who finished in 9.04 seconds.
Other participants from Ohio in the Girl's 60m hurdles were Mt. Vernon senior Danae Rockwell who finished tied for 44th with a time of 9.64 seconds and junior Jordan Aldridge of Fairland who finished 46th in a time of 9.68 seconds.
In the semifinals, Smith ran a 9.11 to finish 7th in her flight and tied for 18th overall, while Pachol finished sixth in her heat and 20th overall.
Boy's 2-Mile
Sophomore stud, Zach Wills of Mason was the top Ohio finisher by finishing 11th overall in the 2-mile with a time of 9:17.88. Tyler Ames, a senior from Lakeview, finished 33rd by running a 9:54.56.
Boy's 1-Mile
Peter Hix, a junior from Oakwood finished fith in his heat and 29th overall by running a personal record time of 4:29.93.

Friday
Boy's 5000m
Revere senior Julian Meyer made his mark on the national scene by finishing third in the 5000m on Friday. Meyer almost broke the 15 minute mark, but had to settle for a very impressive 15:01.50 on his way to taking home the bronze.
A national note, Solomon Haile, a senior from Sandy Spring, Maryland ran a meet and national HS record of 14:22.88, on his way to capturing the gold medal by a full thirty seconds over second place finisher Zack Ornelas of Texas. Haile's national record was broken later in the day at the NIN meet by freshman Lukas Verzbicas of Illinois who ran 14:18.42.
Boy's 4x55m Shuttle Hurdles Relay
The Dunbar team of seniors Richard Hunt, Tyrone Burnley, Terrance Glenn and sophomore Antonio Blanks won their section of the shuttle hurdle relays and finished ninth overall in a time of 31.43 seconds
Girl's 60m
Junior Chesna Sykes of Bishop Hartley placed 10th in the prelims of the girl's 60m dash on Friday night, qualifying for the semifinals that will be run at noon on Saturday.
Saturday
Boy's 200m
Rufus Walls, a senior from Bishop Hartley, finished 26th in the 200m dash in a time of 22.46 seconds.
Boy's 4x400m Relay
The Dunbar boys team that consisted of seniors Theron Ham and Terrance Glenn, junior Brent Vineyard and sophomore Antonio Blanks finished second in their heat and 18th overall with a season best time of 3:25.13.
Bishop Hartley's team finished 25th in a time of 3:27.21. Bishop Hartley's relay team consisted of seniors Rufus Walls, Dominic Colvin and Luke Evans and junior AJ Gillespie.
Boys Shot Put
Junior throwing standout Justin Welch of Eastwood made the finals in the shot put Saturday. Justin finished 6th overall with a throw of 58'3'75".
Perkins junior Matt Hoty also made the trip to New York and finished 12th overall with a throw of 53'7".
Girl's 60m
Junior Chesna Sykes of Bishop Hartley finished 14th in the semi-finals with a time of 7.78 seconds.
Boy's 400m
Dominic Colvin, a senior at Bishop Hartley, finished 40th by running a personal best time of 51.26 seconds.
Sunday
Boy's 800m
Glenville sophomore Quincy Downing finished 2nd in his heat and 16th overall by running a personal record time of 1:56.47.
Boy's Weight Throw
Junior Justin Welch of Eastwood finished third by throwing a personal record of 75'9.25" on his fifth throw of competition. Welch is currently ranked third in the nation in the weight throw, and has one more meet to better his mark for the year.
Another Ohio junior, Clay Harris of Newark Catholic, finished 25th by heaving a personal record throw 57'6.25".
