After taking fourth a year ago, Kyle Johnston earned his first state championship individual title on Saturday in the Division II contest. In order to get the job done, he had to go through friendly rival Caleb Brown of Shelby. The duo had competed against one another several times this season, with each claiming victories.
After a back and forth race, Lexington's Johnston ended up collecting first place honors due to his 15:52.90 showing with Brown finishing as the runner-up. Johnston's result represents the fourth fastest of the day when combining the times from all divisions. View the top 500 performances from the State Championship meet with all divisions combined.
