The talent pool for the upcoming SPIRE Showcase became significantly deeper with the news that nationally ranked athletes, Brooke Jaworski, Victoria Starcher and Semira Killebrew will all be making their way to Geneva for the big meet on February 10th.
Brooke Jaworski (Wausau, WI) will be seeking a second consecutive Showcase title in her signature 400m event. At last year's meet, she established her indoor pr of 54.39 while narrowly edging OSU commit, Jaydan Wood for the victory. Wood, who is also confirmed to return this year, will look to defend home turf in the rematch.
Brooke Jaworski and Jaydan Wood had a spirited battle to the line at the 2018 Showcase.
Similar to Jaworski, Victoria Starcher is a veteran of the SPIRE Showcase. At the 2018 edition, the Ripley (WV) distance stand-out took first in the 1600 and a runner-up finish in the 3200. She's currently undecided about which events she'll enter this time around, but whatever she elects to jump in to, her involvement will likely propel the entire field to a faster time. Starcher is in the process of gauging her fitness after an injury-plagued cross country season. Her 2:10.39 800m effort during her 2019 indoor debut at last weekend's YSU meet indicates that big things are ahead.
MileSplit caught up with Victoria following her 800 last Saturday.
Semira Killebrew will be one of the pre-race favorites in both the 60m and 200m contests. The Indianapolis native collected a pair of impressive triumphs in her season debut at December's Circle Logistic Warrior Invite. Her 7.42 and 24.85 clockings are both tops on the Indiana leaderboard and her 60m result stands at No. 2 in the country, trailing only Florida's Tamari Davis (7.36). Killebrew resides at number twenty in the MileSplit 50 rankings.
Semira Killebrew will bring extensive big meet experience with her to Geneva.
