Nathan Mountain kept his remarkable 2020 cross country campaign rolling today at the Trinity / Valkyrie Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky.
The senior from St. Xavier ran away from a deep field and produced a career best 5k mark of 14:46.90, which was almost 30 seconds clear of the second place finisher, Jackson Watts (15:15.90), who represents Madisonville-North Hopkins (KY). Mountain's clocking resides at the top of the Ohio state leaderboard and sits at number two nation-wide, trailing only Parker Wolfe's (Cherry Creek High School, CO) 14:30.10 effort at last weekend's Heritage Distance Classic.
Mountain, who also established a new St. Xavier school record during today's performance, led his Ohio No. 1 ranked Bombers squad to an emphatic first place finish in the team standings with 35 points. Floyd Central (IN) claimed runner-up honors with 73 points and St. Xavier (Louisville) occupied the third spot with 95 points.
The latest individual triumph is Mountain's third in as many appearances this season. His '20 debut was at the Moeller Primetime Invitational, where he posted a time of 15:52.10 and he followed that up with a 15:19.20 showing at Hilliard Davidson's Hot Summer Bash.
