Following outstanding distance running and high jump efforts last week at Wittenberg, Alyssa Mason and Pierce Doyle have pocketed the MileSplit Ohio Performer of the Week nods for meets taking place between January 17th and January 23rd.
Hilliard Davidson's Mason, an Ohio University commit, kept her unblemished 2022 indoor 1600-3200 record in tact by claiming the double with marks of 5:06.60 and 11:17.05. Mason also won the 3200 at Logan on January 13th to go along with a 3rd place finish in the 800 at that same meet.
Her work in the 1600 represents an all-time best across track seasons while her 3200 clocking is new PR for the indoor circuit. As a junior, Mason broke 11 minutes going 10:58.06 at the Wayne Invitational.
Mason's times station her at No. 2 on Ohio's overall leaderboards in both events.
Beavercreek's Doyle carries an undefeated campaign after his fourth consecutive meet title in the high jump event. His latest showing was his best. Doyle successfully cleared 6-8 for what stands as an Ohio No. 1 and a tie for No. 4 nationally.
While he has state meet experience, an appearance at OHSAA Division I - Hilliard Darby last spring, Doyle appears to be bringing his game to the next level in 2022. He's also won at Logan, Ohio Northern and Ohio State with efforts of 6-4, 6-4 and 6-2, respectively.
Thank you to everyone who voted and congratulations to all of this week's candidates. Results can be found in the links below and look out for our next of set of 'POW' polls coming this Monday.
