In the aftermath of stellar distance and sprinting performances last week, Dillon Sweetman and Nick Biega have pocketed the latest MileSplit Ohio Performer of the Week nods.
Sweetman, a junior from Hilliard Davidson, established a career best mark over 3200 meters on her way to capturing the meet title at Wittenberg Open No. 2.
Her 11:08.35 effort was good for 7-seconds of clearance on her nearest competition and it places her on top of the state's leaderboard when combining athletes from Division I, Division II/III, as well as Unattached and club-based entries.
Sweetman's time also cracks the national top 50 (No. 43 as of the publishing of this article). She's maintained an active schedule of late with starts over the past three weekends. Sweetman has also picked up a 1600m victory at Ohio State this season and set her 1600 PR of 5:12.30 at Wittenberg Meet No. 1.
Biega kept his unblemished 200 meter record in tact during the 2022 indoor campaign in what represented his third straight victory in the event. Steady and consistent out of the gate with 22.25 and 22.29 marks to win at NEOITC White Division and Kent State No. 1, Biega exploded to a new PR in his latest go at the distance, a 21.78 clocking to secure the Ohio Championship Preview triumph.
His time overtakes Xavier Preston (21.80) for the second spot in the state's overall rankings, trailing only Westerville Central's Justin Braun (21.29). From a national perspective, Biega checks-in at No. 21 on the USA ranks.
The Mayfield junior's work at SPIRE wasn't limited to the 200, though. He also went 6.95 in the 60m finals for 3rd place overall, a mark which earned him a new personal best and a tie for the No. 6 spot in Ohio's overall listing.
