Abby Steiner advanced through the opening round of the 200 meter event on Monday at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene.
Steiner clocked 22.26 to win heat 5 decisively and led fellow qualifiers Mujinga Kambundi of Switzerland (22.34) and Nigeria's Nzubechi Grace Nwokocha (22.61) into the semis.
At the familiar confines of Oregon's Hayward Field, Steiner will look to carry the momentum of her NCAA and US titles, achieved earlier this summer at the same venue, during her semi-final start.
The 2018 Dublin Coffman graduate is scheduled to line up in heat 3, which commences at 9:25 pm EDT on Tuesday. Among the internationally-known notables she'll share the track with include Jamaica's Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Nigeria's Favour Ofili.
Watch Steiner's post-race interview above, where discussion points include the home country support she's received, her new sponsorship agreement with Puma, the rigorous 55+ race schedule she's maintained in 2022 and her strategy of avoiding social media when big competitions are looming.
