Owen Grubb Dies From Injury Sustained In Aftermath Of Race

Our heartfelt condolences are extended to the family, friends and teammates of Owen Grubb, a junior class student-athlete from Minerva, who died on Saturday due to injuries sustained in an incident following the Division II District - Cambridge cross country race.

Jordan Miller, who was the first press member to report the news, indicated that the cause of death has not been made public at this point.

"We are all grieving the loss of Owen, who was a bright light in our high school and an exceptional student-athlete," Minerva Local Superintendent Gary Chaddock indicated to Miller.

"We are keeping our entire school community close to our hearts during this time," Chaddock concluded.

Dugan Hill, a former coach at Caldwell High School and the OHSAA Eastern District Cross Country and Track and Field President, offered the following thoughts on behalf of his district's leadership group.

"The Eastern District Track and Cross Country Coaches extend their heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the entire Minerva cross country family following the tragic accident that occurred at the District cross country meet yesterday. This is unbelievable and turned what should have been a day of joy into a tragic loss for the family, as well as the entire community."

Grubb finished 10th overall in Saturday's race with a time of 17:26.05 and helped lead his Lions team to victory.

The Minerva School District will be providing counseling services this week to the members of the Minerva XC program, as well as to anyone in the greater school community who is in need of support.

On behalf of MileSplit Ohio, we offer our profound sympathy to all those who knew Owen Grubb.
