Week In Review: Indoor Season Begins at Ohio Northern University: Welch goes 76-6 in WT

Western Ohio Officials Invitational at Ohio Northern University

The first "true" High School indoor meet of the 2010 season is now in the books.  A total of 69 MileSplit National Elite Marks were set at this early season meet.  If this meet is any indicator of the season to come, Ohio is going to have an impressive and tough Indoor season this year.

The most impressive early season mark came from Justin Welch, a senior at Eastwood, who heaved the 25lbs. weight a US #1 76 feet and 6 inches, which is a five inch improvement over his personal best throw from last season.  Welch, who has committed to the University of Georgia, also tossed the shot put a US #5 57-11 to take first place.

Other US Top 10 marks produced by Ohians were, North Baltimore's Amanda Hotaling clearing 11-0 (US #10 tie) in the pole vault, Kendra Averesch of Leipsic throwing the shot 40-0 (US #8), Jackie Leppelmeier of McComb tossing the shot 40-1.75 (US #7).  On the boys side, US Top 10 marks were, Dunbar's Antonio Blanks running 51.61 (US #9) to win the 400m dash,  Thurgood Marshall's Donte McDaniel going 7.63 (US #9) in the 55m hurdles Demoye Bogle of Wayne going 6.50 (US #10 tie) to win the 55m dash, Cuyahoga Heights' Brandon Eddy clearing 14-6 (US #8) to start the season in the pole vault.  The weight throw saw the most Ohians in the US Top 10, besides Welch's US #1 Throw there are two others that made the list, junior Jared Harrison of Wayne (58-5, US #4) and Mt. Vernon senior Derik Baker (55-2.5, US #10).
