The 800m and high jump events seemed to dominate the Ohio landscape this past weekend. Now under three weeks away from the indoor state meets, athletes are chasing their final marks to solidify themselves a place at SPIRE to compete amongst the best in the state. Latrell Hughes and Celia Schulte reset the top marks in the 800m, while high jump acquired two OH #2 performances. Sean Reith shined in the 1600m run and holds the top mark in the state as just a sophomore. Here is the rundown:
Latrell Hughes keeps getting faster
Latrell Hughes (Lexington 2026) has rewritten the record books once again. This past weekend, he threw down a 1:49.45 time in the 800m run in the Big Apple during the CIRCUIT-NYC meet. He had a massive amount of competition and finished second to Caleb Winders (HP Distance 2026), the Indiana native and defending New Balance Nationals outdoor champion in this event. All eight boys in this heat ran sub-1:55.
This is Hughes' second fastest time ever, just behind his 1:48.46 mark from last outdoor season. Not only does this give him the current OH #1 by almost four seconds, but this also puts him at a US #3 mark. He is one of only four boys to crack the 1:50 barrier all season so far.
Hughes will be an Oregon Duck next fall as he announced his commitment this month. Until then, he will continue chasing the fast times on the track during his final months at Lexington.

Sean Reith: The sophomore superpower
Another mark went down on the distance side this week. Sean Reith (Providence Pastures running 2028) was able to lower his all time 1600m personal-best to a 4:13.20 at the YSU High School Meet #4. The Pennsylvania native, Jonathan Stetchock (Hempfield Area 07 2026), was able to make it a competitive battle to the line in this race, and ultimately pulled through running 4:12.83.
He may just be a sophomore, but he has an impressive resume already. All seven of his 1600m and mile marks combined from last outdoor season were under the 4:20 mark. Although he does not compete for an affiliated Ohio school to be eligible for state championships, Reith will be one to watch as he looks to make his mark at many national meets these next few years.
Teague Boland raises his own bar
The high jump bar just got way higher for Teague Boland (Moeller 2027). He absolutely dominated the KTCCCA President's Day Weekend Invite, jumping a new personal-best of 6-10 to solidify himself an OH #2. It was a solo effort as the next highest mark from this meet was 6-0.
Previously, his highest jump took place at the OHSAA Division 1 Region 4 - Huber Heights competition where Boland won with a 6-8 mark. He ended up finishing 9th at the OHSAA Division 1 State Championships this past spring.
Right now, Boland sits right behind Elijah Harris (Wester. Central 2026) who has jumped 7-1. Moving forward, this could be a tight matchup as they will likely see each other at both indoor and outdoor state meets.
800m domination from Celia Schulte
Celia Schulte (Hillard Davidson 2026) also made her appearance at the CIRCUIT-NYC meet this past weekend. She put herself in an insanely competitive 800m field and came away with a new OH #1 mark of 2:08.70. No one else in Ohio has cracked the 2:14 barrier yet this indoor season.
Schulte is coming back from an impressive outdoor season last year as she won the OHSAA Division 1 State Championships in this event with a new state record of 2:04.65.
As the season goes on, it will be interesting to see if she solely focuses on the 800m, or potentially makes that shift to doubling back in the 1600m, as she has already ran 4:55.81 this indoor season at the New Balance Indoors Grand Prix.

Cravens gains positive momentum in the HJ
It's been a year of growth for Lauren Cravens (Batavia 2026) in the high jump, and she just proved that she can be one of the top in the state. Her new personal-best mark set at The Logan Chieftain Open of 5-6 puts her at OH #2.
Last outdoor season, her best jump was 5-4 at the OHSAA Division 2 Region 8 - Piqua meet. She did not compete at the state meet, but finished 10th overall at the outdoor adidas Track Nationals last year. During the previous indoor season, she finished 13th at the 2025 OATCCC D2 Indoor State Meet and could absolutely crush that placement in under a month.
