SHRINER HIT 10.49. HALL SWEPT TWO EVENTS. HESLER IS EVERYWHERE.
Logan's Shriner, Wayne's Garrett, North Adams' Hesler, Valley Forge's Hall. Four athletes across six leaderboards through the first week of April
The first week of April saw plenty of new names names rocket up the Ohio's boys and girls sprint leaderboards. Some athletes did it once. Beau Hesler of North Adams did it in three. Below is where the top five stands in each event.
Braden Shriner of Logan opened his outdoor season at the Rocky Brands Invitational on Apr 4 and won the 100m in 10.49, a PR and the state lead. The senior also ran 21.89 in the 200m at the same meet. Shriner competed at Nike Outdoor Nationals last season as a junior, going out in prelims at 10.92. He competed at Nike Indoor Nationals in March.
Key'Shawn Garrett of Wayne leads the state 200m at 21.13 (+3.8), run at the Beach Run Invitational. His wind-legal PR in the event is 21.33 from prelims at the same meet. The senior is not just a sprinter: he set a triple jump PR of 47-9.00 at the same meet and won the long jump indoors at the 2026 OATCCC D1 Indoor State Meet at 22-11.00. His 100m at the Wayne Quint on Mar 27 was 10.97.
Beau Hesler of North Adams sits third in all three boys sprint events - 10.73 in the 100m, 21.71 in the 200m, and 48.28 in the 400m. The 100m and 200m were set at the Georgetown Vern Hawkins Invitational on Mar 30, and the 400m at the Jackson HS Invitational on Apr 3. No other boys athlete in the state appears in the top five of all three sprint events.
Ziare Scurry of Steubenville leads the state 400m at 48.06, a PR, run at the 71st Annual Bellaire Relays on Apr 4. The junior competed at adidas Indoor Nationals in March, running 21.74 in the 200m prelims for an indoor PR. His indoor 400m PR of 48.28 from February lasted about six weeks before his outdoor opener broke it.
Neveah Hall of Valley Forge went to the Bill Dodd Invitational on Apr 4 and left leading two state leaderboards. The senior ran 11.74 in the 100m for a PR and 24.63 in the 200m, winning both. She also won the long jump at 18-4.75 for a PR. Hall made the OHSAA D1 state meet last year in both sprint events, going out in prelims. Her 2025 PRs in both events were wind-aided, but the 11.74 and 24.63 are legal.
Peyton Dews of Little Miami leads the state girls 400m at 57.52, a PR, run at the Wildcat Opener Harrison on Mar 28. The senior ran 56.35 at the 2026 OATCCC D1 Indoor State Meet on Mar 6. Her outdoor opener is a tick off her indoor PR but still leads the state by 0.14 seconds over Ma'Khayla Bass of Wayne (57.66).
