BEDFORD: Keeping with tradition, the St. Vincent-St. Mary track and field teams will be well represented at the Division II state meet next weekend in Columbus. The Fighting Irish won both the girls and boys regional team titles on a sunny and hot Saturday at Bearcat Stadium in Bedford. “The big key is the amount of qualifiers to state,” St. V-M coach Dan Lancianese said. “We wanted to try and build upon what we did last year in the events. How many events we could qualify to Columbus is important. Last year we sent both the guys and girls down with eight events each. This year we will be sending down eight in the guys and 11 in the girls.” (via http://www.ohio.com/)

About an hour after Liberty senior Marquis Williamson cost Poland senior Chris Anderson a state berth in the 400-meter dash, Anderson got a golden opportunity for revenge. He ran with it. On the last leg of the 4x400 relay at Saturday’s Division II regional meet at Bedford High School, Williamson got the baton just ahead of Anderson. “I knew he was going to be tough,” said Anderson, who finished fifth, one spot behind the state-qualifying Williamson, in the open 400. BEDFORD, Ohio — In the track picture, it's a small thing, really, whether a regional track champion produces a state qualifier in the 3,200 meters. But at St. Vincent-St. Mary, a longtime cross-country power, it was driving coach Dan Lancianese crazy. "We haven't had a boys state qualifier in the 3,200 [since 2004] and we've never had a girls state qualifier. It's a little absurd when you think about it," Lancianese said.
