Boys Race

Individual Qualifiers:

Tom Hipwell (Parma), Dann Herwerden (Berea), Casey Castenir (Mid Park), Seth Dumm (Cleveland Heights), Joivally Turner (Maple Heights), Sal DelGuidice (Nordonia), Wade Coffin (South-Willoughby), Drew Avsec (Geneva), Christopher Fortuna (Mayfield), Mark Wieferich (Marietta), Aaron Sutton (Howland), Brennan Hamilton (Massillon Jackson)

Prediction:

There are really six contenders for four spots in this Regional Championship race.  Look for Mentor to take home the team title as the have performed well throughout the whole season.  The final three spots are going to be tightly contested as five teams will be competing for these spots.  Hoover, Solon, Strongsville, Massillon Perry and Twinsburg all have legitimate shots at finishing in the runner up position.  Look for Twinsburg to finish second, just like at their District Meet.  While Hoover lost to Massillon Perry the last two weeks, due to Mass. Perry's solid front runners, in a bigger meet, Hoover has the advantage of tight pack and better fifth runner.  Look for Hoover and Solon to be the two teams that advance in the three and four spots with Hoover finding a way to finish third, with Solon just behind them in fourth.

Girls Race

Individual Qualifers:

Olivia DiBiasio and Meghan Wade (Berea), Shaina Kovatch and Alexandra Scott (Valley Forge), Jamie Clapacs and Lauren Allen (South-Willoughby), Amanda Garlak and Megan Liggett (Chardon), Jessica Grams (Nordonia), Susie Nelson and Cierra Hungerford (Riverside-Painesville), Emily Fisher (Canton McKinley), Claire Miller (Wooster), Nicloe Tiberio (Canfield), Katie Heney (Boardman), Jenna Williams (Lake-Uniontown)

Prediction:

Magnificat is the clear favorite in this race, as they may score less than 40 team points if everyone runs well.  They may even score less 35 points if they run a great race.  Hoover should finish second after their two solid performances at both their league meet and district meet.  Hoover themselves, may even score under 75 points if they run their race.  These two teams are locks, probably even if something out of the ordinary happens.   The last two spots are tough to call as it will come down to whichever team has the best perfomances out of their fourth and fifth runners.  St. Joseph Academy ran the race they needed to at their District meet, if they can do that again, they will likely finish third, but could be fourth.  The teams that all have a shot at claiming that final spot are Solon, Mentor, Massillon Jackson, Massillon Perry, North Royalton, and Strongsville.  All of these teams have two girls at or close to sub 20 time and the rest of their scorers are in the 20's.  Look for Solon to rally after their district team title and run well enough to qualify in the fourth and final spot.

Boys Race

Individual Qualifiers:

Chris Kantor and Eddie Robinson (Jefferson Area), Jim Simoncic and Michael Dober (Benedictine),  Alex Wertheim (Beachwood), Brandon White (Conneaut), Joey Schlueter (West Branch), Matt Pelletier, Greg Dornback and Johnny Honkala (Berkshire), Stan Rocuskie (Streetsboro), John Eigner (Garfield), Tyler Tomazic and Jacob Swords (St. Vincent-St. Mary), Chase Robinson (Fairless), Kyle Osburn and Nathan Rosenbaum (Minerva)

Prediction:

Six teams racing for four spots, and two teams are going home that could finish towards the top in November.  Woodridge is the cream of the crop and it would be a big surprise if someone were to take the team title from them.  In second look for Crestwood to be ready to roll and secure their place at Scioto Downs.  The final two spots come down to Perry, Field, CVCA and Walsh Jesuit.  This is going to come down to who has the best fourth and fifth runners.  Look for Walsh Jesuit to capture the thrid qualifying spot, while Perry finishes in fourth.  CVCA or Field could make it out, but will have to have solid races all around to finish in the top four.

Girls Race

Individual Qualifers:

Jill Sweress (Aurora), Hannah Fertig (Conneaut), Christina Oles (Cardinal Mooney), Andrea Wingett (West Branch), Lindsay Houck (Revere), Megan Donovan (Coventry), Sylvia Cintron and Tiffany Lautzenheis (Alliance), Liz Gaut and Mackenzie Glasgow (Fairless)

Prediction:

This Regional match up has nine ranked teams in the most recent OATCCC Coaches poll.  And some of them are going to be finishing their season this weekend.  Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy shouldn't have too much of a challenge to take the team title, but either Woodridge or St. Vincent-St. Mary could finish first if CVCA has a poor race.   The race for second could get interesting, with SVSM and Woodridge both having legitimate shots at finishing in the runner up spot.  Woodridge's strong front runners should be enough for Woodridge to finish second in the team race in front of SVSM who will likely finish in the third spot.  The last spot will likely come down to Perry and Crestwood, while Beaumont, Salem, Minerva and Walsh Jesuit all have shots at running in November.  Crestwood's strong pack will likely carry them to a fourth place team finish and chance to run at Scioto Downs.

Boys Race

Individual Qualifiers:

Darren Bush and Ben Stuckey (Wynford), Alex Mowry (Plymouth), David Chick (East Palestine), Jason McDowell (Badger), Thomas Neer and Matt Tarchick (Lordstown), Richard Palo (Pymatuning Valley), Josh Stevens (Jackson-Milton), Cole Palmer (Mineral Ridge), Julius Pilijevas (Kirtland), Tim Filla and Tyler Peters (Cardinal), Cody Tschantz (St. Peter Chanel), Nathan Grimm (Leetonia), Bryan Derr (Loudonville), Jared Sevek (Southern-Salineville), Anthony Lee (David Anderson), Scott Ramer (Dalton), Denny Hanreck (Smithville)

Prediction:

A battle of the top two teams on the boys side in Division III.  McDonald versus St. Thomas Aquinas.  While STA has the best front runners of the two teams, the pack of McDonald looks to be too strong for STA to overcome.  Look for McDonald to take the team title, with STA in a respectable second place.  New London is running well as of late, and seem to be peaking at just the right time, look for them to finish in third.  The final two spots will be a battle between Maplewood and East Canton, who both finished second in their respective district meets.  Again this is going to be a battle of who has the better fourth and fifth runners.  Maplewood has had the better fourth and fifth runners lately, so look for them to finish in the fourth and final qualifying spot with East Canton just a few points behind.

Girls Race

Individual Qualifers:

Monic Ciarniello (Lowellville), Brittany DiMare (Saints John and Paul), Sarah Bonar and Brianna Propst (Badger), Leighann Kelvington (East Palestine), Lauren Reidthaler (Wickliffe), Meghanne Perisa and Kaitlyn Rodomsky (JFK-Warren), Amber Cross (Mineral Ridge), Samantha Turner (Pymatuning Valley), Rosemary Heredos (Cardinal), Rebecca Wolkoff (Beachwood), Amanda Culley (Lutheran West), Hannah Hartzler and Jessica Winkler (Norwayne), Brooke Benner (Orrville), Ashley George (East Canton), Changelle Cain (Dalton), Brianna Byer (Tuslaw), Abby Kauffman (Smithville), Jana Sleutz (Kidron Central Christian)

Prediction:

Four ranked teams, four spots to qualify to the State Meet.  Seems like simple math here at first glance.  Gilmour Academy should take the team title on the strength of their front runners.  Berkshire and Maplewood could both challenge for the team title, but will have to have exceptional meets to be the Regional champion.  The final three spots will likely go to teams from the same district meet, Maplewood, Berkshire and McDonald.  Maplewood, after a strong showing at their district meet looks like the team that could challenge Gilmour Academy the most, but should finish in second.  Look for the order to remain the same as their District Meet with Berkshire finishing third and McDonald finishng fourth with the last qualifying position.  Kirtland, St. Thomas Aquinas or Waterloo could disrupt this order, but will have to have fantastic races out of their fourth and fifth runners in order to qualify.
