Northeast Ohio Runners To Watch At The State Championships

Division 2 Preview

In their Regionals matchup, Noah Graham and Ryan Champa produced an exciting battle where Graham edged Champa by less than two seconds for the Boardman Region individual title. Look for these two to battle yet again at state as Champa will be fighting for both the individual and team title for Woodridge. Woodridge won last year's state championship pretty handily with a score of 37 points. This is a squad that returns four of their top five this year. However, in the Regionals Tournament at Boardman, Woodridge was taken down by Bay 77-84. Bay is led by the speedy duo of Will Warren and Jude Ault, and will look to build upon their Regionals team win. Outside of Northeast Ohio, the boys of Unioto look strong and will be one to watch for in the Division 2 boys team race.

Two-time state champion Ella Gilson of Hawken will look to finish her high school cross country career with a three-peat. Although, Gilson will not be without a challenger. Grace Hartman of Oakwood has been runner-up to Gilson the past two state championships. Hartman has run 17:56 this season, which is right there with Gilson's season best of 17:51.
