Northeast Ohio Runners To Watch At The State Championships

Division 3 Preview

Northeast Ohio's fastest Division 3 boys runner has been Brody Rupe of McDonald with a season best of 15:57. On Saturday, Rupe looks to cement himself in McDonald's rich running history. He finished third last year, and last year's winner Derek Amicon of Grandview Heights will be there to defend his title. Also, Barrett Scheatzle of Canton Central Catholic has impressed with strong performances throughout the season. Losing to Rupe by only a second at Regionals, look for Scheatzle to be in the mix up front for the Division 3 title. For the team title, look for East Canton to compete with teams like Cedarville and Summit Country Day

Representing Northeast Ohio and competing for the individual title in the Division 3 girls race are Caleigh Richards of Maplewood and Amy Weybrecht of Gilmour Academy. Richards has run 18:32 this year, while Weybrecht has run 18:51. Weybrecht will also be looking to lead Gilmour Academy to a team title. In their Regionals win, Gilmour Academy put their top three runners in the top ten overall.
