Taking on a collection of the country's best distance specialists Friday at New Balance Nationals Katie Clute secured All-America honors following her 10:17.14 effort in the Championship Division 2 Mile contest.
Clute steadily made her way up the field in the early to mid portion of the race and crossed her 1 Mile split in 5:07.24. She climbed as high as the number 4-spot in the latter stages and ultimately wound up 6th overall to solidify her aforementioned All-American standing.
Ohio's Division I state champion and top ranked athlete in the 3200m this season with a 10:19.47 mark, Clute, impressively, ran faster at the Armory over the full 2 Mile distance, which spans an additional 18 meters.
Clute's performance came with historical significance, as her 2 Mile time resides as No. 2 all-time (indoors) for Ohio-based high school competitors, trailing only Annie Heffernan's 10:12.02 from the 2014 edition of New Balance Nationals.
