Going into this weekend's New York Relays, the question was if a New Yorker qualified for the adidas Dream Mile, would they skip their state meet? Ohio state champ Michael Vitucci didn't let them decide.

Here is a look at the Top Ten performances outdoors in each event of the last decade: Four returning boys are currently ranked: Sr. Michael Vitucci of St. Xavier has the top spot in the 1600 with a time of 4:07.96, Sr. Kyle Mau of Hudson is ranked 7th in the 3200 with a 9:03.07, Pickerington North Sr. Nick Gray has the 5th fastest time in the 200 with a 21.00 and Sr. Chad Zallow of JFK Warren has the 9th fastest 300mH with a 36.87.

Congratulations to St. Xavier Sr. Michael Vitucci who is the Gatorade State Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year! Vitucci won the D1 Boy's State Championship (15:34.53) and was undefeated in his Ohio races this past season.

Who had the #1 ranked indoor performance in 2014 by a returning male?  Here are the top Ohio male performances of 2014 ranking the athletes based upon their performance and it's ranking in the MileSplit Top 10 National Indoor rankings in each event by returners.

St. Xavier's Michael Vitucci is Ohio Milesplit's 2014 Male Athlete of the Year! He won the OHSAA D1 1600m with a 4:07.96.   He anchored the winning St. Xavier boys 4x800 team to a new All Time Ohio record of 7:36.33 in the D1 State finals.  He anchored the 4x800, once again, at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals to a win with a sub 1:50 run.  He ran an undefeated regular Cross Country season in Ohio, winning the D1 boy's race with a time of 15:34.53.  His lone regular season loss was a 4th place in the Trinity/Valkryie Invitational in Louisville, KY with a time of 15:16.35.

The weather at the 2014 OHSAA State Cross Country Championships was in the 30's with wind chills in the 20's and winds gusting to 30 mph.  It was miserable! The races however were exciting, with the drama that comes with the expected and the unexpected and the exhuberance of those that fought the weather and ran well and the disappointment of those that did not.    

The top 3 fastest runners in Division 1 between Colin Burdette, Michael Vitucci, and Nick Grismer were all together at the Trinity/Valkyrie Invitational with Vitucci posting the top time in the state with his 15:16 run. Meanwhile, the Hilliard Davidson senior Burdette improved his season best time from that meet (6th, 15:32) this past weekend at the Portage Invitational in Michigan. 

St. Xavier Sr. Michael Vitucci and Highlands (Ky) junior Ethan Shuley fought each other down the final stretch of the Boys D1 Varisty race.  Vitucci narrowly won by .50 seconds.  15:32.20 to 15:32.70.  Lebanon Sophomore Jessica Hartman won the girl's  D1 Varisty race.

The Trinity/Valkyre Invitational is the oldest and the biggest HS XC invitational held in Kentucky each fall.  This year's edition is set to start up tonight with many of the best individuals from seven states in attendance.   

Ohio Boys Mid-Season State XC Rankings

St. Xavier Sr. Michael Vitucci, with his impressive win at Tiffin last weekend, was voted the MileSplit National Boys  XC Performer of the Week.  Michael ran a PR 15:22 PR.  Congratulations to Michael!

The following boys had national noteworthy wins in major invitationals and races this past week. Pick the one that most impressed you. Voting ends on Thursday, September 11 at 8 PM ET.

In the D3 Girl's Varsity race, Coldwater Sr. Sarah Kanney was pushed by Liberty Center Sr. Brittany Atkinson and ran a state leading time of 17:57.87.  Atkinson was under the 18 minute mark as well, running 17:50.78.  On the boy's side, St. Xavier Sr. Michael Vitucci ran a State leading 15:22.26 as he led St. Ignatius Jr. Luke Wagner (2nd 15:28.12) and Dublin Jerome Jr. Bradley Davis (3rd 15:29.50) to the finish. In the D2 Girl's race, Granville Jr. Micaela DeGenaro and Sr. Claire Lamb ran 6th and 7th as they led Granville in an upset of SVSM, scoring 70 to SVSM's 73.  In the D1 Boy's race, St. Ignatius and St. Xavier ran to a tie with 102 points.
