With 41 schools and 17 conferences represented, the Wayne Invitational will have interest piqued across the state. The meet has grown to one of the premeir events to showcase talented teams and individuals in Southwestern Ohio as well as across the state. This meet will be a true balance of sprints, hurdles, distance and field events. The team championship is truly up for grabs, for both boys and girls.

We just wrapped up the start of the most exciting 22 days in Ohio High School Cross Country. Let's take a look back at the conference meets. Also check out which boys team wore pink to race in this weekend.
The 2009 version of the MMOC has all the key ingredients for a great day of elite team and individual cross country competition. The MMOC has a festive atmosphere with loud music, top ranked teams, great depth, top individuals from several states and a fan friendly course that has yielded some blazing times in years past.
Another weekend of cross country and excitement is in the books. This week saw Zach Wills dipping under 15 minutes for the first time in his career at the Culver Academis Invitational. St. Ignatius and Magnificat both won their respective Championship races at the All Ohio Catholic Championship in Kettering, Ohio.
The fourth addition to the Saturday Night Lights is back with a new venue, date and a lot more of excitement.
The Gatorade Player of the Year program annually recognizes one winner in the District of Columbia and each of the 50 states that sanction high school football, girls volleyball, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, baseball, softball, and boys and girls track & field. The selection process is administered by ESPN RISE magazine, which works with top sport-specific experts and a media advisory board of accomplished, veteran prep sports journalists to determine the state winners in each sport.

Just like a Broadway star, Danny Neff (white top, purple shorts) from Vandalia-Butler likes to perform in front of a crowd. The bigger the better for the senior, who stated “Big crowds, that’s the best, It’s just so awesome.”
While Virtual Meets are just a prediction of available statistics, this will be a good jumping off point for discussion of the upcoming Division and Conference meets. Realize that the virtual meet feature allows teams to score more than two people in an event.
This year’s Endurance Sports Wayne Invitational may go down as one of the best ever, and that’s saying a lot, considering who has set foot on this track in the past. Names like Piqua’s Brandon Saine
Ohio Boys that are ranked in the top 100 nationally as of 4/19/09. Ohio is well represented in the high jump and both the shot in discus. Justin Welch is the current leader in the Hammer Throw, and Shawn Roberts has the second fastest time in the 2000m steeplechase in the nation. Danny Neff has the 4th best time in the Mile/1600 and Erik Kynard has the 4th best High Jump
What a state meet it was!
After last weeks amazing results and top notch performances, this week quieted down a little in terms of movement on the state leaderboards. There were some impressive marks set this weekend, and a big name opened up his indoor campaign for the year with some great times.

Zach Wills ran an amzing race today, and had a shot at going sub 15:00, but had to settle for an impressive 15:02.36 and a new course record. Wills had formidable competition in the Race of Champions as it included Kevin Yarnell, Travis Hawes, Yoshi Shimizu, Tsehaye Hiluf, and Eric Schmidt

Freshman Tsehaye Hiluf of Reynoldsburg is making a statement early in the season that he is going to be a player come November. Tsehaye finished 7th at the Hot Summer Bash last weekend with a time of 16:23 in his first high school 5k of his career, and now can add a runner up finish at Lebanon this weekend to his short, but impressive, resume.
