It’s been a pleasure having the opportunity to interview some of Ohio’s and the Nation’s best Cross Country and Track & Field Athletes.  Most have moved on to pursue their educations and to compete at the next level.  We reached out to our interviewee’s and asked them what their experience has been at the next level.  Many have gotten back and shared their athletic experiences to date, as well as what their expectations were, some recommendations and also the realities of competing at the next level.

“Throw UFO’s” with Coy Blair Chances are that if you live in or frequent South East Ohio, you may see shiny orbs high in the sky on a regular basis. Is it a reflection? Is it a plane? Is it a government experiment? Despite conspiracy theorists, it’s most likely Coy Blair’s shot put. With throws nearing 70ft, the colossal senior from Logan High School has made a career out of throwing implements like no one has before. Blair is on a crash course with the state shot put record, and it appears that few people have a chance of stopping him. Whether or not Coy’s shot puts burn up while reentering the Earth’s atmosphere is still undetermined, but what we do know is that Coy is one of the state’s best advocates for the sport of throwing, through his professionalism and fiery passion. Logan's Coy Blair has the State Shot Put Record in Sight! Mark Stonecipher Feb 27, 2012

Coy Blair finished 2nd in last years State D1 shot with a throw of 61-11.25.  The State record outdoors is 71-0.  Indoors this year he recently threw a PR of 67-03.25 (20m).  That throw was just .25” off of the Ohio Indoor record.  It is also  the 2nd best throw in the nation at this time.  He's dedicated and confident that he can throw 71-0 and has his sights set on 75-0.  OHRunner spoke with him about his background, his workouts and his goals for this year.  He improved 11' from his Sophomore to his Junior year and has already thrown 6' further than last year and as he says "it’s just a matter of hitting it."

Coy Blair Commits to the Boilermakers Dec 23, 2011

Coy Blair, a senior at Logan High School, has decided to continue his eduacation and throwing career at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.  Blair finished second in the Division 1 Shot Put competition at the OHSAA Track and Field Championship with a personal record throw of 61-11.25.  During the indoor season,  Blair placed fifth in the Division 1 Weight Throw at the OATCCC Indoor Track and Field Championship.
