Buckeye High School Qaulifier - Meet Results
The top mark of the meet belonged to junior Demoye Bogle of Wayne who ran a blazing 6.96 in the 60m dash, which currently is the eighth fastest time in the US. Bgole also came back and won the 200m in a time of 22.77 seconds.
Senior, Julian Meyer of Revere opened his indoor season with a 9:40.19, showing that he has fully recovered from his injury that kept him out of the State Cross Country Meet. Meyer blew away the competition, with the next closest competitor being over a half minute behind Meyer.
The 60m hurdles also saw a US top 10 performance, with senior Dailyn Moore of Sandusky blowing away the field with an impressive 8.15 seconds, the ninth best performance to date in the nation.
Senior Jarret Hopkins of Hamilton Township took the early lead on the state in the triple jump by being the first to break the 41' barrier with a hop, skip and a jump of 41'1.5". In the shot put, River HS senior, DJ Duke popped off a 60'6.5" heave, currently the fifth best throw nationally this season. In the weight throw, senior Lucas Ferguson of Mount Vernon become the third Ohioan to break the 60' barrier this year with a toss of 63'2.5".
Western Brown senior Megan Wright set the tone in the mile run by finishing in 5:36.33.
In the high jump, both Laura Gehret, a senior from Anna, and Kelsey Couts, a senior from Olentangy Liberty, cleared 5'4" to tie for the best mark in Ohio this season. Gehret won the event with less misses.
Senior Ivana Payne of Gahanna-Lincoln opened up her indoor campaign with a victory in the shot put with a toss of 38'9.25", while senior Alexis Thomas of Wayne bested the field in the weight throw with a heave of 45'7", six feet better than the rest of the field.
The Division 1 meet had some great field event marks. In the weight throw, junior Justin Welch of Eastwood continued his dominance in the weight, throwing the 25lbs ball 69'0". Earlier in the year Justin threw the number two mark in the nation at 70'11.75". Michael Kidder, a senior from Kings finished second to Welch with a throw of 60'11". Welch also won the shot put competition with a toss of 54'6".
In the high jump, Toledo Rogers proved that they will be have a chance at breaking relay meet records in any relay meet that they attend. Besides have senior Erik Kynard, who cleared 7'1" at Findlay, but who has gone higher, Rogers also has another senior named Craig Short that cleared 6'5".
Delta sophomore Collin Fisher finished second in the mile run, but set the tone for the state of Ohio. Fisher's time of 4:38.20 is currently the fastest time in the state in this event.
On the girls side, senior Ksenia Kriatchkova from Sylvania Southview became the first girl in Ohio to break the 32' barrier by going 32'0.75" for the victory.
Akron and its 300m track always produce fast times, and this meet was no exception. The top four times in the 4x200m relay were set at this meet, with Dunbar coming out on top in a time of 1:31.99. Likewise, the top six times in the 4x800 were set at this meet, this time with Solon taking the early lead in Ohio with a time of 8:21.40.
Shawn Roberts, a senior from Centerville, took the lead in the 1600m by running a 4:31.21, which included a 65 second final 400 meters.
The top performance of the meet goes to senior Willie Brown of John Adams who took the 800 field out in about 53-54 seconds and then held on for the victory in a time of 1:56.57, currently the seventh fastest time in the nation.
Seniors Tyler Ames of Lakeview and Jeremy Schiele of Solon battled Brad Hough of West Allegheny for top honors in the 3200m. Hough came out on top with a time of 9:36.85, followed by Ames in 9:37.92 and Schiele in 9:38.80.
The girls top performer was senior Mahagony Jones of Rhodes who blazed the fourth fastest time in the nation and fastest time in the state this season in the 60m dash with a time of 7.67 seconds. Jones was a two time winner, also besting the field in the 200m with a time of 25.30, the top mark in Ohio and the 15th best in the nation.
Bekka Simko, a junior at Gilmour Academy, ran a 2:20.26, the fastest time in Ohio so far in this early season.
Just like on the guys side, the big 300m track helped produce fast relay times in the 4x800m this weekend, as three of the four fastest times in the state came from this meet. The team from Solon ran a 10:26.47 to set the top mark in the state.
In the field events, the top marks came in the high jump and in the pole vault. Senior Alyssa Janezic of Solon tied for the top mark in the state by winning the High Jump at Akron with a leap of 5'4". In the pole vault, Kayla Caldwell, a senior from Indian Valley, bettered her high school field house record of 11'8" by four inches when she clear 12'0" to win the pole vault competition. Caldwell's 12'0" jump is the top mark in Ohio and the eighth best in the nation.
Marietta College High School Meet #2 - Meet Results
Ethan Reese (senior) Meadowbrook repeated as the winner in the weight throw at Marietta with a toss of 50'9.75". Reese also won the weight throw competition at the first Marietta College High School meet.
In the girls weight throw, Anna Knapski, a senior from Canton South also repeated as the winner at Marietta, this time with a toss of 42'0". Knapski also won the weight throw competition at the first Marietta College High School Meet.
Kevin Dare High School Invitational - Girls Results
Collinwood traveled to this meet at Penn State University in State College, Pennsylvania and had some impressive performances. Junior Amber Smith dipped below nine seconds in the 60m hurldes to post the sixth fastest time in the US with a time of 8.93 to win the event. Collinwood also cruised to victories in the 4x200m (1:45.82) and 4x400m (4:01.48).
