Colton Mahon (21-5 LJ), Brennan Townsend (148-8 DT), Aryanna Floyd (15.49 100H), and Britain Parkin (11:38.86 3200m) headline strong performances for Ohio underclassmen.
BOYS
At the Philo/Meadowbrook Dual on Apr. 28, Mahon jumped 21-5 to win the event and set a PR, a massive nearly five-foot improvement from his previous best of 16-8, set at the Ashland University HS Light Giver Open on Feb. 8 during the indoor season. The mark places him 94th in Ohio across all grades. Mahon showed versatility throughout the indoor season, also posting a 5-6 high jump, a 9.58 in the 55m hurdles, and a 26.04 in the 200m.
Townsend's season has been one of trusting the process. He opened at 133-0 at the Madison Track and Field Invitational on Apr. 2. Then he threw 117-5 at the Lexington Tri-Meet on Apr. 7, 113-11 at the Shelby HS Invitational on Apr. 11, and 123-9 at the Ontario Relays on Apr. 17, before finally bettering his season opener - 137-5 at the Triway High School Invite on Apr. 24. He seized that momentum and threw 148-8 to place third at the Shelby-Ontario Dual on Apr. 28. The PR ranks him 150th in Ohio across all grades and represents a more than 57-foot improvement from his 2025 outdoor best of 91-4.
GIRLS
Floyd opened the outdoor season at 15.91 at the Massillon Washington HS Early Bird Invite on Mar. 28 and has been cutting time steadily since. She ran 16.70 at the Jack Lintz Northmont Invitational on Apr. 4, 15.99 at the Princeton Spurlock Track and Field Classic on Apr. 11, and 15.97 at the Springfield Wildcat Classic on Apr. 18 before winning the Clark County HS Championship in 15.64 on Apr. 28. Two days later at the Wayne Invitational she ran 15.49 to place sixth and set a PR, leaving her 51st in Ohio across all grades. Her 2025 outdoor best was 17.03, set at the OHSAA Division 1 District meet at Troy.
Three weeks and three races tell the story of Parkin's outdoor season. She ran 12:10.69 at the JV Series Meet on Apr. 13, dropped to 11:51.69 at the Eastern Relays on Apr. 17-18, then ran 11:38.86 to place fourth at the Wayne Invitational on Apr. 30 - May 1, a PR that ranks her 114th in Ohio across all grades. Her indoor 3200m best of 12:46.85 from Feb. 15 and a cross country 5K best of 19:48.50 last fall give context to the base she has built. Her 2025 outdoor best was 12:16.69, set at the OHSAA Division 1 District meet at Bellbrook.
