Zach Wills opens the season blazing a 15:17 on his tough home course to take the lead in the state, while up north at the Tiffin Carnival, Magnificat scorches the field by scoring 52 points, over a 100 points ahead of second place, to win the Girs Division 1 Varsity-A race.

US#1 Zach Wills, Mason, tore through his home invitational, the Mason XC Invite, with a time of 15:17.79 on a true xc course that included hale bay jumps and creek crossings. Wills won the Big Schools section by nearly a minute over Andrew Goodwin, Celina, in his opening race of the 2009 season. Samantha Siler, Sycamore, won the Big School girls section with a time of 18:55.56.

Katie Borchers of Russia won the first big varsity race of the day by going sub 19:00 for the first time in her career. Borchers posted a 18:59.33 to win the Girls Division 3 Varsity race.
In the Girls Division 2 Varsity-A race, Indiana transplant, Christian Blair, who now runs for CVCA captured the win by crossing the finish line in a time of 18:38.35.
Michelle Thomas of Glen Este easily won the less competitive Girls Division 1 Varsity-B race, crossing the line a full minute ahead of the next closest runner. The Girls Division 1 Varsity-A race was more competitive, like it should be, with three girls 18 flat or less. Magnificat's Madeline Chamber set a school and person record by running 18:00.81 to finish third, while Meredith Wagner of Sylvania Northview broke 18 for the first time in her career by finishing second with a time of 17:59.18. North Royalton's Hannah Neczypor took home the gold by finishing in a five seconds ahead of Wagner in a time of 17:54.03.
Last year's Middle School State Champion, Sam Prakel of Versailles made a statement today by winning the Boys Division 3 Varsity-A race with an impressive time 15:50.23, the fastest 5K time for a freshman in the nation.
Bay's Michael Brajdic won the Boys Division 2 Varsity race in a time of 15:21.38, the fastest time of the day on the boys side. Brajdic improved his time at Tiffin last year by 22 seconds.
Curtis Hanle (15:23) of Louisville held off both Daniel Garleb (15:26) of Pickerington North and Kyle Wheeler (15:34) of Green to take capture the victory in the Boys Division 1 Varsity-A race.
