It's here! The 2011 Midwest Meet of Champions should present a smorgasbord of Ohio's top cross country teams and distance runners with several teams from neighboring states to add some regional flavor to the meet that many regard as Ohio's best regular season competition of the season. Many of the top programs in the state attend this meet because of the high level of competition that is found here each fall. This year should be no different.
Last Saturday the Ohio weather finally cooperated and at the Hilliard Districts, three of Ohio's and three of the nations best HS Pole vaulters got to go head to head. Joey Uhle, a Senior from Olentangy Liberty, who holds Ohio's indoor record with a vault of 17'3", was the first High School vaulter in Ohio to go over the 17' mark and now holds the Ohio outdoor record with a 17' vault at Districts, Jake Blankenship, a Junior from Gahanna Lincoln, who just last week set a new Ohio outdoor vault record clearing16'10" and Chris Uhle, Joey's twin brother, who until the last two weeks held the State record of 16'9" that he had set at last years State Championships.

Chris Uhle broke the all time Ohio Record with a vault of 16-6 at Olentangy Liberty Freedom Relays this past Saturday. Chris broke the previous record of 16-4 by John Coyne of Buckeye High School in 1986.
Wayne senior Demoye Bogle has been on fire the last two weeks. This week Demoye won three events, the 60m hurdles, 60m dash and the 200m dash, and both of the 60m races are current OH #1 and US Top 10 times. Last week Bogle posted an OH #1 and a US Top 10 time in the 55m dash on his way to winning four individual events.
While the official start of the indoor season was two weeks ago, this weekend is usually the time that most teams decide to dust off the spikes and open up their season. This weekend was full of new OH #1 and US Top 10 times.

The 2009 version of the MMOC has all the key ingredients for a great day of elite team and individual cross country competition. The MMOC has a festive atmosphere with loud music, top ranked teams, great depth, top individuals from several states and a fan friendly course that has yielded some blazing times in years past.
What a state meet it was!
Lots of movement on the performance lists this weekend, seven new Ohio #1 marks on the girls side and six new leaders on the boys side. There is only one more qualifying meet on the schedule for next weekend, at Oberlin College.
After last weeks amazing results and top notch performances, this week quieted down a little in terms of movement on the state leaderboards. There were some impressive marks set this weekend, and a big name opened up his indoor campaign for the year with some great times.
Kent State finally got to show off their new track at a high school meet and the competition proved that it was a fast track by setting eleven different Ohio leading marks. Performance Lists now available
Fast times, new state leaders and US top 10 performances were all over the Ohio High School Indoor Track and Field scene this past weekend. Ohio State, Akron, Findlay and Marietta all provided exciting meets and terrific marks for this early in the season.
Mackenzie Wills (Troy Christian) became the first female vaulter in Ohio to clear the 13'0" barrier Saturday at the West Milton Division III OHSAA Track and Field District Championships. Wills jump was three inches higher than the previous Ohio record of 12'9" set by both Carrie Kayes of Green and Kayla Caldwell of Indian Valley. Jade Riebold of Olentangy Liberty set the indoor Ohio record in the pole vault earlier this year by clearing 12'9". View the video
This past weekend saw fast times out of Kent State, with Kendall Gregory (Strongsville) rolling to a #1 US time in the 400m and Jared Hall (Cleveland Heights) cruising to the US #2 spot in the 800m. The Case Western HS Meet saw a US #3 performance in Emily Infeld's 1600m run. Athletes throughout the state improved their performances before the first release of the OATCCC performance list, which is used in qualifying for the OATCCC Indoor State Championship. The Kent State HS Meet #2 garnered national attention because of the amazing performances, see the full story here.
With only three meets going on in the state this weekend, and only two of the meets being qualifying meets for the OATCCC Indoor Ohio State Championships, the weekend was pretty quiet.
